Help with Mickey Mouse being real!

Hi Guys,

As a lot of you know, we leave in 2 weeks for our magical, once in a lifetime trip.

We have all been so excited, but my poor daughter Heather (8) has come out of school in tears today, after some girl in her class said she was going to a halloween party in October.

Heather said she was ging to the "real" halloween party with Mickey and the girls have told her Mickey isnt real, its just someone dressed up!!

Heather believes in EVERYTHING and this has torn her apart today! She argued back to the other girl, but apparently this other child knows Mickey isnt real, as when he speaks his mouth doesnt move.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP US!!

my daughter knows Mickey isn't real, but when we are at Disney she certainly believes he's real - the magic of Disney seems to make them forget what they know logically to be true.

When she asked me the first time if he was real, I asked her what she believed, she told me he as real a few times, but now she says she knows he's not, cause he would be far too busy to be in a park all day.

Even us adults who know the characters are not real (most of us anyway ) still line up to have our photo taken with them

So if the magic works for us - it will sure work for an 8 year old

I think it comes to a time when childrens dreams are shattered, by Santa and even Mickey Mouse.

I agree with others have wrote you soon forget they are real you become a kid again and the atmosphere is so magical she will be so eager to have her photo taken and forget they are dressed up.

If you want her to believe he is real. You could say that the one she saw was a person dressed up. He is real but he is filming at the moment and getting ready for parades and shows. You could try twisting it a bit. Kids always speak their minds.

Thanks for the replies - Heather has woken up today with a fresh mind!

She has said that she thinks the other girl is just jealous that she will be meeting the "real" Mickey Mouse. Heather said that she's going to take in her autograph book and photos into school after the holiday to prove it!!

Unfortunately other peoples comments are mostly borne out of jealousy.

At the end of the day we are all children at heart. We have been going to Orlando for many years now and whilst we do not go on a lot of the rides we still love just walking around and watching the children - of all ages - have great fun with the characters.

I have got a 6 month old grand daughter who I have promised will be going out to see the mouse when she is a little bit older.

When that day arrives the buzz will be out of the world!

We fly out Friday for 3 weeks and will spend a lot of time in the parks.

I really hope your daughter enjoys herself when you go out - I am certain she will.

I am gutted, but I always did wonder how he got around the park so quickly!!!

I have video footage of our first trip to WDW in 1992 when my dd's were 7 & 5. Every time we meet Mickey, there I am waving, saying "Thanks, Mickey", "Say thank you to Mickey, girls", "Bye, Mickey"... you get the picture. Needless to say, I have been on the receiving end of relentless mickey taking (no pun intended) from them as they've grown up!

Once you get there, I don't think your daughter will even consider whether or not he's real. If I was to think about it, I know there's someone inside the costume, but the point is, I don't think about it. He's just Mickey Mouse.

The Disney characters that are human in the films are represented by walking talking humans in the parks ie various Princes & Princesses, Pocahontas etc. This makes inter-action with guests extremely easy. The characters that are not human don't have this ability and have to interact with a huge repetoire of mime actions that will engage all age groups. Costumed characters outweigh human characters significantly.

The fact that Mickey doesn't speak will probably go un-noticed because of the costume/human imbalance and therefore most characters will not speak either. They will however engage your daughter in such a way that she will feel that she and Mickey met and had a meaningful exchange despite him never actually saying a word, just waving his arms around alot.

It's a fantastic skill to have and to be able to execute. And it works perfectly.
