My DS is special needs and sees numerous specialists. We are going to WDW next month. The Special Needs Dept has said they have a 'pass' that will excuse the 5 days as excused. Our district is very strict, so one of DS' specialists said she will send a letter to the principal and teachers as well. She told me to write it, and she'll sign it.

So, I don't need a big letter like the one on Mousesavers. I'm looking for help from teachers on what should be included or how to word it (ie DS has sensory issues, anxiety attacks, difficulties in crowds so we need to go during off season).

Thanks!

I don't have any advice but wanted to know if you live in Alabama - I noticed that you have a Roll Tide blinkie! I am from Florence, AL but now live in Atlanta, Ga!

I think you have got it. I am a teacher and just what you said at the end of the post is what you need to include. You know your son the best. If he has issues with crowds then going in the off season would be the best. Don't worry about how the letter should sound just write about how this trip would best suit you son's needs. Hope this helps!!

Thanks. He has an extensive IEP, gets tons of therapy at school, and has his own Assistant 2 times per day. They just started Kindergarten last week, but it is not like the school isn't aware of his issues. I figured short and sweet was best.

Basically you need to sate in the letter--IEP reason why your sons is going at this time of year. I am sure that in your IEP there are sections for OT, PT, and what ever else he sees under realted services. The IEP should also have several section on the anxiety issues--crowd issues--and sensory issues. By that he should be doing things that try to acclimate (sp?) to those situations. Disney would be a great way to work on several objectives from his IEP. You could also put something in there that it is DR. recommended that you go at this time due to his issues. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Funny about the jerseys and cheerleading uniform...I was just looking at my DS jersey and DD cheerleading uniform today too - except they were Auburn!

Thanks. Yes, he gets PT, OT, Speech, has his own assistant (he's mainstreamed). He is on meds for anxiety, ADHD, and has lots of sensory issues. He also has Cerebral Palsy so crowds and mobility are issues as well as panic attacks, meltdowns, etc. I'll get the IEP and go down the list and then have the doctor sign it. She did tell me to go in low season. We went the 1st week of Dec last year, and with low crowds he still had problems. Thank goodness for the GAC. There is now way we could go summer, Christmas/New Years, or Spring Break (it's Easter week for us). Appreciate the help!
