First off I am suppose to start a new part time job tomorrow as an Acct. Receiveable clerk. I currently have a part time job at an IT firm as an Administrative Assistant.
I am "really" worried about starting this new job. I only have a small amt of experience in the A/R field and I am not sure I have the skills they think I have.
They both pay the same, both are part time, but one is 30 miles from home and the new one is 8 miles from home. The 30 miles away is the IT firm and me and my hubby carpool since he works 3 blocks from me.
I have been stewing over this and ever since they offered the job to me I have been having some strange dreams. Which I think are caused by the stress of the situation.

UGH what to do what to do!

Were you looking for new employment and found this AR job or do you work for a hiring/temp company?

I think you'll do fine with Administrative Asst. background in an A/R clerical role. In my last position I suprvised 5 payroll clerks and for entry level work you will probably know the basics if you have been an assistant for awhile. I think being an Administrative Assistant prepares you for all sorts of jobs, since you need to be organized, a team player, and multi-task. Good luck!

I was looking for another job when I found this one. Right now the days I work at the IT firm are the days I am off at the new job so for now I work at both jobs and if the AR does not work out I will still have my old job.
I just hate this anxiety.

Well the anxiety began to build up to almost a panic attack so that was a sure sign this position is not going to be a good one. So I am declining the job offer.
Thanks to those of you who offered support to me :)

Oh, I hate that you are declining the job.

I went from Administrative Assistant to Accounts Receivable Clerk and it really isn't a big jump. Most of the skills I used in one position have helped me in the other.

If they didn't think you could do the job, they wouldn't have hired you.

I have been working for over 36 years and can remember times where I switched jobs within the same company, just at a different campus, and was extremely anxious and nervous. In one case, I was driving to the job on the first day and had to pull off the road because I was so nervous!!! And I even knew the guy who hired me prior to the job offer and knew a few others in the office as well.

Everyone gets anxious and nervous.

In an interview early in my career, the person told me that I wouldn't be sitting talking to him if I wasn't qualified to do the job. Remember, if they think you have the skills to do the job -- well, then you do!!!

Also agree with others that going from an Admin position to Accounting is a fairly easy transition.

Don't let your fear of the unknown hold you back!!! Be brave!!!
