I'll be travelling to San Diego and L.A in early July with my husband and two boys DS7 and DS5. We recently went to WDW so we are trying to focus on doing some new things in SoCal.

So far, we are planning on going to DCA and SeaWorld (both new advetures for us) for one day each and want to have a couple relaxed touring and beach days as well. We have only one more "free" day where we'd like to see the SD Zoo or Legoland but we're having trouble deciding which one. We have a fantastic zoo in Toronto and we just got pandas last month so we intend on seeing them later this summer. I worry about having too high expectations for the SD Zoo when we have such a great zoo at home. Our boys *love* Lego, but my husband is concerned that it is not age appropriate and may be one too many amusement parks if we're going to Disney. He's also heard from a couple people that it's not all that great, but my "people" said it is! :) We also have a Legoland Discovery Centre in Toronto but of course, it's nothing like the amusement park!

Any ideas on how to decide between the two? Or any other suggestions entirely?

Thanks!

Honestly if I had to choose between the zoo & legoland with 2 young boys like you have I would definately go to legoland. Legoland is good for young kids like what you have. Its not meant for older children. We went when our kids were ds8, ds10 & dd13 & dd was too old for most stuff & the boys were at the age that if we would have waited they would be too old. There is a lot for your ds5 to do as well. The zoo is ok but imo not as good as legoland.

Legoland for sure. The zoo is nice but if you have a good one, you're not missing anything. I posted a Legoland trip report in this forum if it helps. Your boys are a great age and you could skip some of the smaller kid rides and do mindstorm, the 4 coasters and spend time in pirate reef and the game play areas.

Or if you are worried about too many amusement parks, do something around socal like a tour in la or a boat tour of some sort or maybe just tour one of the beach cities followed by a dinner overlooking the ocean.

I think if you want to do legoland at some point, this is your best year for your boy's ages though.

Your boys are the perfect age for Legoland. You can almost always hunt down free child tickets to defray the price.

For younger kids who can't go on the ride,s Sea World is less of an "amusement park" and more of an aquatic zoo with shows. I think as long as you aren't doing Legoland, Sea World, and DCA on back to back days your boys will do great!

p.s. Love the Toronto Zoo!
