Hi All :goodvibes .
Well it's been 5 VERY LONG years, but in 3 weeks time we will be off back to see Mickey :cool1: .So i need help with what can go in my hand luggage, things have changed since we went. This is what i would like to take------

jam sandwiches
choc chip biscuits
jammie dodgers
chocolate+crisps
hand sanitising spray
baby wipes
kitchen roll+carrier bags
fruit shoot drinks
paracetamol/ibuprofen tablets(shop bought not prescription)

Where do i stand on taking digital camera, disposable cameras, camcorder,do i keep these in my bag when it goes thru the x-ray machine or do i take them out+show the security people?.Is it true that disposable camera's can sometimes develop when they have passed thru the machine :confused3 .
Really i would prefer the disposable camera's+camcorder to go in the suitcase-would that be better?.

Anything else you can tell me,to help me out would be much appreciated.I feel like a newbie all over again where it's been so long  .
Thanks everyone.x.

The only liquids you are allowed are 100 ml which have to be in a clear plastic bag.

Digital cameras are fine in your hand luggage to go through the x ray machine. Disposable cameras are fine unless they are ASO 800 (think this is underwater film) as the xrays will damage the film, the film won't develop by itself. If you pack the disposable camera in the hold luggage the xrays will damage the film.

I wouldn't advise putting any valuables in the hold luggage, keep them with you. TSA insist on unlocked cases but don't know if that is just on their side departing as opposed to arriving. I just leave ours unlocked in any case.

Your hand luggage is actually restricted to a weight and dimensions, see whoever you are travelling with. I always adhere to these but have only ever had my hand luggage weighed and that was coming back from USA at Sanford. It sounds like you are taking a lot of stuff on with you on the plane.

I took stacks of stuff the first time I flew with the lads, snacks and loads of activities for them. They didn't need the snacks and I took far too much to entertain them. The poor things had haversacks jammed packed (no way would they be allowed on the plane nowadays) and if they had fell backwards they would have looked like beetles unable to get back on their feet.

Once through security you can buy drinks, snacks and food if you want.

Remember your note pad for that trip report you are definitely going to write. I am busy digging out old reports at the moment as there are not that many new ones to read.:) I would love to read all about your holidays.

Last August I took fruit, scones, sandwiches to eat on the plane. Drinks I bought at the airport. Stephen will only eat when hungrey & can be picky. It worked well for us because we had long delays & had to go on a smaller plane that only served 1 meal so at least we had something to put us on. You have to throw any leftovers away before entering US.

Calpol for the little ones, sachets are better as they are easier with the liquid limits, or get it at boots when you go through security.
I always take carrier bags, wet wipes and kitchen roll sheets - hate it when the kisa are making a mess in a small place :rotfl: Always take too many toys for the kids, but on a few flights we have bben on the kiddies end up sharing their toys as some parents pack nothing for the kiddies :)

Always pack shorts an tshirts for little ones (including undies incase of split drinks etc) to change into before we land (and pjs on trip home) so they feel a little more refreshed, and are nice and cool when we land.

Tissues - always end up with runny nose on plane!!!

Magazine or book for you, when kiddies are asleep or busy

Have a wonderful time

Only thing I can see on the list you couldn't take through is the fruit shoots - but you will be fine to buy them after security and take them on the plane.

Can I echo what wicket has said - PLEASE don't trust your camcorder to the hold luggage, you never know how your case is going to get knocked about, or worse. Far better to have it in your hand luggage where you know it is safe. :goodvibes

We always take our cameras in our hand luggage with us, and as there are 4 of us we always have plenty of hand luggage space. Even when DD was little we still packed a bag and said it was for her - even though one of us actually carried it for her.
Now that we have made a few trips we have learnt that we always take too much stuff, most of which never gets used.
Obviously you will have some sort of folder that contains all your holiday paper work (bookings, passports, tickets, copies of everything etc) and the only other things that I would stick in there are a bag of boiled sweets for take off and landing and maybe some chewing gum or toothbrush/paste. We also took Fastmelts for the kids.

We always take our camera/videocamera in our Hand Luggage:thumbsup2

You wont be able to take drinks unless you buy them after security:)

we had to hand in chocolate, jelly sweets and fruit bars as they said we couldnt take them in to the US with us (I had the year before) but they came around the plane with a plastic bag and took them off us :confused3

Paracetemol Tablets are fine to take on with you tho.

Perfume and liquids have to be under 100ml

You can take more than one 100ml bottle through security but they must all fit in one bag of 1 litre capacity. This link will hopefully explain it. Any liquids you buy after security are considered 'safe' so you can buy as much as you like.

:cheer2: Well done Michelle. I'll give you the same advice I just gave somebody on another forum. If you are offered tickets - TAKE THEM - don't worry if they aren't as close to the stage as you would like or whatever. If you opt to reject them and search again you will go to the back of the queue and end up with a massive wait and possibly no tickets.

GOOD LUCK!! pixiedust: :wizard:

Thanks David, will reply on my thread on the community board :goodvibes .x.
Fastmelts are a type of Calpol that dissolves on the tongue - no need for water and strawberry tasting so great for kids. http://www.alltoiletries.com/shared/...601&txt=CALPOL

We always take plenty of these on our trips incase the kids need them.

Thanks Kenny, they sound good. Will get them for the plane-they can obviously go in hand luggage+don't have to worry about the ml like liquid sachets :thumbsup2 .x.

Hope you are not in a semi detached then because your neighbours may have wondered what was going on.:rotfl: Delighted for you.

I am looking forward to your pre trippie and feel excited for you knowing your holiday will soon be here.

glad you asked all them questions, saved me a job :)

great idea to weigh cases on the wii fit, i did think that ages ago- but you just reminded me. :thumbsup2

We didn't have our sweets taken off of us in December? We wasn't asked at all on either leg of the journey....never have been asked that. :confused3

Just a quick thought - what with you mentioning smelly pits and all .
I am assuming that you are talking about taking a roll on deodrant, as aerosols will definately not be allowed on the plane in your hand luggage whether they are bought before, or after, security.

I bought a little weight scale from Amazon for about a £5 that you can hook your suitcase to and lift up yourself. This is particularly handy for the return journey with all your extra stuff you have bought.

we share the hand luggage details!

we split up the important stuff incase we lose one bag (which has never happened!)

for hand luggage we always take:

cameras/video/cell phones and their chargers
wallets/tickets/visa's/passports/travel reservations
3 or 4 biro's
sunglasses and cases
2 x 100ml bottles body lotion
1 x chapstick each
1 x travel size bottle perfume
hairbrush
change clothes for the kids (goes in their backpacks)
deodorant
washbag including toothbrushing stuff (travel size toothpaste)
laptop and charger
2 colouring books and crayons
as many toys as the kids can fit in their backpacks without being too heavy!
Tylenol for me incase, 4 sachets kids Nurofen just incase.
Newspaper and magazines
personal headphones for us all.

We have a 21" carry-on pull bag and the DH uses a lightweight backpack if it needs a nother bag to fit in. Obviously all liquids (inc toothpaste etc) are in clear ziplock gas which go at the top of the bag through security to speed it up.

We dont bring any food or drink for the kids - plenty of that onboard for us.

We used to just carry backpacks or duffle type bags as handluggage but since we got a couple of these carry-on's we love them! Means we dont need a seperate laptop bag and pulling wheeled bags is much easier than lugging things over your shoulder. CLICK HERE TO SEE CARRY ON BAG PIC
