Does anyone know how to set the Garmin up for intervals with a goal distance? I can see how to set it up R3/W1, but it only has how many reps. I want to put in a distance - like R3/W1 for 6 or 6.20 miles. Anyone know? I had to keep looking at the timer today and it was a pain. I really would have liked the beep. Thanks for any help!

I was trying to figure this out the other day myself. I may take it to the local running store for help. A few of the employees there wear Garmins and said I can bring mine in for technical support if needed.

Patrick sets his for intervals with beeping. He said he'll reply tonight when he can have the Garmin in hand.

As far as I remember aboutthe Garmin 205 interval settings, you can have it go my time or distance, but if you go by time, you will need to work out about how many reps it will take for you to complete you distance, and enter it that way. It is a bit kludgy, but it works. Sorta.
My only gripe with when I set it that way, is that you don't get to see the distance travelled, until you are done.

Hey Shan! I have a Garmin 405. I know what you're talking about - What I do, is I usually chart out my running route ahead of time. I do that mostly to give someone at home an idea of where I'll be just in case. Then I'll set my Garmin for the time intervals.

I know you can mix time and mileage intervals (run 3 miles; walk 1 minute) but I haven't been able to figure out how to do with a mileage goal.

Hi Shan,

I have the 305 and what I did was:
1) Training mode
2) Training Options
3) Alerts
4) Time/Distance Alerts

This section has to be programed to time/distance you would like, but you might need to do a time trial to figure out how far you can run in 3 minutes and how fast you walk in 1 minute in order for it to measure out for 6 miles.

I hope this is the information you are looking for

Thanks everyone. I have the 205. So Carol, according to that website you enter in the repeats as 99. Is that so you can manually stop it when you hit your distance goal? Can you see how far you're running on the Garmin when you do this?

Yes, once you hit stop it stops and you can see how far you have gone. Actually I often just arrow down to the summary screen once I get it going and don't have the "interval timer" showing. That shows me my distance, total elapsed time and current speed. The watch just keeps on beeping until you hit stop at the intervals. I have two built one for 3/1 and one for 2/1 intervals.

The one thing I haven't tried is hitting the laps to do mile splits. Someday I am going to try to remember to do that LOL!

After several years of failed attempts and frustrations I stopped using my 305 for my R/W splits. I did not like having a lap for each R/W. I want to know what my mile splits are which I get with a one mile lap.

I have found the best solution is to have a seperate watch, Ironman Timex, on my other wrist for the splits. I use the Garmin then for my distance goal, virtual trainer, one mile splits, etc. I love my Garmin and won't run without it.

Trying to get the Garmin to give me all the information while doing R/W was just to confusing.

I have now switch to a vibrating timer which works even better then my Ironman. I don't have to worry about hearing the beeps during a loud race.
