Okay, so this is probably a fairly easy one. I have PS CS3, and want to add that black border around my photos. At the bottom put my name and a copyright.......how the heck do I do that. I know nothing about this program. Is there a really simple way or something?

well with PS there are usually several ways to get something done.

for a quick border
image>canvas size> add a few tenths for a thin border or an inch or more if you wish. and make sure the color you want is current in the tool pallette.

for a signature
select the text tool. when you do a text tool menu bar will have options to change fonts, colors, sizes and shapes like curved text or outlined etc click on drawing in area you want to add the text. You can always change the details and location later< if you always save it as a photoshop file before converting to jpeg or whatever you like.

Once you learn how to do it that way, or in better ways that others will offer, you can tell photo shop to learn that as an action. then apply that action to all photos in a certain folder etc...

Actions are a great time saver for repetative work. and can be used for many things like resizing or addin borders...

Thanks for the tips! Will try this tomorrow......or today.

Another idea would be to carry a black rectangle with the center cut out. Sign it in the lower right hand corner. You could hold that in front of the camera when you take pictures.

Even better, if you want to apply it to existing pictures, print them, set them in the rectangle, and then take a picture of that.

Photoshop - $600
Black piece of construction paper - $0.02

And the super bonus - because you didn't digitally manipulate the picture, you can enter it into the weekly photo contest even with the frame! Booya!

Here's what I've done:

I used to frame my photos with a black frame, but have since stopped. Now, I just "sign" my photo. I did this by signing my name using a Wacom tablet and making my signature into a brush within photoshop, and "stamping" my photos with the brush. You could technically scan in your signature (sign a blank piece of paper with a Sharpie) to photoshop if you didn't have a Wacom tablet.

In my opinion, it looks nice.

Hehehe, thinkin' outside the ... uh, frame?

Or paint it onto that circular uv filter that is sitting on the shelf. The notice when you get home that in every pic the sig is upside down in the upper left corner....

I really like the black frame on many of my photos, check the puppy photos below. But it ruins trying to post one file to print in several print size ratios. and heck if I am going to crop and post every single print size option. hehehehehe

love the look of signing the photos!!! I tried the frame....got the frame finally added, added a signature....and printed a 24x36 picture.....and i'll be danged if it didn't cut off half the letters.....then I couldn't figure out how to add it to every picture (i have 1500 from just my past trip)........So i need new option, and i'm going to try that signature. Tomorrow i'll scan my signature in!
