Well we just moved into our house and that is great but unfortunately my Disney budget is gone now I have to try and save from scratch again! I want to go next August so 11 months away, I have about 3000.00 and can (don't want to) put 2000.00 on a credit card but where's the rest going to come from. It will be very hard to save any extra with the kids's music lessons and other little extras (can't take away the music lessons) and I was supposed to work full time in the winter but now it looks like my hours will stay part-time so...

I am discouraged but still want to go! Am I being irresponsible or optimistic?

You can do it!! When I get in a pinch or need to save a little extra, I stop all fast food. No more stops at McDonald's, Burger king, Tim Horton's or wherever. If I need a quick and easy meal I make hotdogs. If you think about it the cost of a meal at a fast food restaurant could buy a home cooked gourmet meal these days. Maybe you never stop for fast food but most people do and it is one way to save big bucks. Put the money aside every week too so you don't spend it on something else.

I pay myself first - $500.00 per month goes directly into a special savings account for travel. You never really miss it.

I totally understand! We are building a new house and $$$ required at every turn. We had already planned a trip to WDW for Jan, and there is no way we are cancelling. Heck, we decided to fly now ... so that added an extra $1000 to the debt  Just do what you can. Save whenever you find an opportunity. ie. let's say you're thinking, "let's order pizza" -- don't order it, and take that $25 and put it into a bank for your trip. Life, and time with your precious children are so much more important than the little bit of debt that you might have after the trip. It'll eventually get paid off, and as long as it's not so high that you can't sleep at night :)

Good luck ... if we buy AP's for our Jan trip, we'll be there next Aug too ::yes::

I am also in optimist mode! I have 4 months to save! Ebay, pay myself and I agree with the other posters. If I'm thinking of fast food I put the money into the 'Disney fund' and make soup and sandwiches. The kids prefer the easy meals anyway!
My daughter took a coffee can and covered it with Mickey stickers and we add to it regularly, it's amazing how opportunity to save comes up!
I gave the kids their $1 for pizza day at school and my dd put her dollar in the can and made a sandwich for lunch. I hadn't seen her do this, my dh saw her but she never said a word. When I asked her about it she said she wanted to go to disney world more than she wanted pizza. We had a conversation about treating yourself once and awhile. I think she is learning about the pleasure of working and saving towards a goal, she puts her pizza money in about half the time so maybe I'll succeed in raising a well-rounded kid. (fingers are crossed)

Dear melindaandrob,

Please tell your daughter I said "WOW"!:hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

And the fact that she was doing that on her own tells you you've already succeeded in the well rounded kid department.

What a cute child contributing to the Disney Funds!
What about asking relatives to give Disney dollars or Disney gift cards for birthdays and Christmas gifts
Have a garage sale.
Have a disney nite!
