help with driving route from Dallas to WDW since Ivan

Due to Ivan, we've had to modify our normal route from Dallas to WDW. Usually we take I-10 though Mobile and Pensacola, but because of road closures, we'll be going through Montgomery, AL. The change in route adds about 22 miles, but there are 2 ways we can go from Montgomery to WDW. The 1st route takes us through Dothan, AL and Tallahassee traveling on routes 231 and 84. The map makes these roads look like divided highways. The distance going this route is 454 miles and according to MSMN maps, estimated time of travel is 9 hours and 37 minutes.

The 2nd route goes through Albany, GA on route 82 until it hooks up with I-75 in Georgia. Route 82 looks like a pretty small road on the map. Although this route totals out at 459 miles, MSMN places the estimated travel time at 8 hours 39 minutes.

Can anyone tell me about these roads and which would be the better route?

We have the same problem leaving from Shreveport. We're taking the route through Albany. We're leaving in a little over two weeks and will be back another week later. When are you going? We'll report back to let people know about the Albany route. We can always go both ways, one on the way down and one on the way back.

We leave Oct 1 and are coming back Oct 8. DH is leaning toward the 1st route because he thinks the roads will be better, but we don't know.

I live in South Mississippi and really don't want to go north to catch I-20. I would normally take I-10. I am a AAA member and will get them to do me a trip tik when they get their computers updated but I could go 2 lane highways I guess until I got past Panama City.
