So we are avid campers, but decided to get a hotel room for Disney - but we are still driving and that is where I am hoping some of you may be able to help. We will be driving straight through the night on the way down, but on the way home, we would like to break up the drive and stay overnight and do something fun so the kids don't get too antsy:) Somewhere not to far off of 95 - since that is the route we are looking at taking:)

So I am thinking of stopping around Savannah - Any recommendations of things to do while there?

And then maybe somewhere in Virginia - any recommendations of where and what to do?

Any help is appreciated!

We are planning on hitting Savannah on the way down next summer. I think just touring the city will be fun, but you could also think about this: http://www.crazydash.com/
We did a Crazy Dash in Raleigh this past spring and had a fun time with it! It is a little more fun and active than a standard historical tour.

You could always hit Gettysburg or Antietam if you're interested in Civil War stuff.

Thanks you! We are actually going to camp in Gettysburg next spring with some friends - so will wait to visit there then:)

Hi. Depends on where you're driving from in PA. The Savannah area off 95 is about 5 hours from Disney. It seems too close to me for your first day. I would recommend getting to at least Florence SC, which is about 7-8 hours. Then drive home the next day for about the same amount of time.

But if you're not within an hour of Philadelphia, the second day would be longer.

Thanks - we are visiting the space center before we start home which is why Savannah was a good choice and then another stop - so 2 nights and 2 other activities - so looking for some suggestions for where to stop and what to do:)

We also come from Pennsylvania, and I, too, have spent time looking for "close to 95" activities to do for the trip home. And, honestly, I have not been able to find much. There are certainly things to do in all of the states you drive through, but I have never been able to find any close enough to 95. Maybe someone has better information than I do.

The Space Center is a first item I would recommend. I would also suggest St Augustine, FL as the country's oldest city and it has a great fort to visit. Savannah, GA is wonderful and so is Charleston, SC, up the road a piece. If you ever want to see what Myrtle Beach, SC offers, you can get off in Florence, SC and head over in about an hour or so. Great beaches, good hotel prices, and family oriented vacation spot. Then, I would head up to Virginia and head over from Richmond, VA to Williamsburg, a scenic hour or so drive and visit the Busch Gardens Williamsburg as well as all the historical spots. If you should do the Busch Gardens visit, check their webpage as they do offer a SeaWorld Florida/Busch Gardens ticket which is a possible savings. The next thing would be to visit Civil War sites in Virginia and then head to DC area where you can do a wonderful history tour. With good preparation, you could accomplish a lot, Hope this helps!

Yes - this is where I am struggling!

Thanks! We are definitely doing the Space Center! Do you have any suggestions of what to do/see in Savannah or Charleston?

We actually usually go to Myrtle Beach ever summer, didn't go this year since we are doing Disney - love Myrtle Beach!!!

I thought about Williamsburg - but didn't think one day would be enough there - it has been about 10 years since I have been there:)

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Best advice that I can give on Savannah and Charleston is to look for tours that can give you an overall view of the beauty and depth of the towns. You can also get tours focusing on one aspect, ie history, architecture, military, even ghosts! Food is incredible in both towns and the beauty of the waterfronts in astonishing.
