Whenever we've been to Disney we have always taken a couple of hundred dollars for the airport, food and tolls. The rest of our holiday money has been in American Express travelers cheques (and of course the old faithfull plastic card for those must have essentials). But going back some time ago im sure i saw a thread about some restaurants etc refusing travellers cheques. Does anyone have any information about this? if you take American Express Travellers cheques do you, now, have to change them into dollars like you do when you take normal travellers cheques into Europe? Do you get charged for changing them into dollarsand do you have to look foe somewhere to change them every time you want some cash? How does everyone else carry around their holiday money? surely it's not a good idea taking it all in dollars, for safety reasons. Am i still ok with the American Express travellers cheques and getting my wires mixed up with something totally different?. Please advise as i am looking to buy some dollars within the next few days...

think it was for high denominations ie $100 checks. and at only a couple of places.
The front dest of your hotel would be more than willing to change a TC for you
Have never been refused chasing a TC, and they always ask for a photo id(drivers licence)
only had a slight problem when we drove from cali to vegas girl at ice cream parlor had never seen a TC before

Can't help you an awful lot,but i know The Golden Coral no longer accepts travellers cheques-cash only.x.

I suppose the thing to do if you are taking travellers cheques and run out of $ is use some $100 cheques when you buy smaller items eg in Walmart or Publix. They will give you change in $, so you have some cash.

I have never had to physically change them into $ - they are treated as cash, and 90% of places will accept them as they are. You should be absolutely fine!

we dont go for high $ TC`s we would get $50`s and $20`s TC, plus nationwide cc

Thanks for the replys. So do you think i should stick with the A.E travellers cheques? We normally change $100 at walmart etc then have the change back in $. Does anyone know what other places have stopped accepting A.E travellers cheques? as the last time we we're over there (xmas06/07) places like the golden coral accepted them.

We have not used TC's for years. We just take some cash with us and use our nationwide plastic. If we need more cash, we just go to the cash machine and get a load out, but most of the time we just use plastic when shopping, eating etc.

Everywhere I've ever been on Disney property seems to accept TCs, whatever their value and I've never been asked for ID either (which I found a little strange). We normally take a mix of currency, TCs and credit card just to be sure.

I normally take $100 AE T/C - went last year & didn't have a problem at all. I do normally change the higher ones at WDW for ease or at the department stores when shopping :) Publix also readily took them.

I can't remember if we used to take passports as Forms as ID, but the thought of taking our p ports everywhere is a little worrying, especially during July when the weather is so unpredictable (ours are bound to get soaking wet!!) Are driving licence's ok to use as forms of ID?

I'm sure I have heard people taking a photocopy of their passport to act as ID - would this be possible?
