Hi

We are going to Disney with my 8 yr old son on the ketogenic diet for his seizures. He is just starting it Jan 1st and we are going Feb 4th. How do we do this at Disney dining. Will they let us bring his special meals with us to eat and not charge us the meal rate? I read somewhere that there is an "entertainment fee". How do you go about getting that. (we are wanting to do character dining)

Any advice will be great. Also do we need doctor's orders to prove his disability and diet to not pay the meal fee for him? He has cerbral palsy, epilepsy, and mental retardation dianosis. This will be our first time to the World.

Thanks
Lori

If you go to the disABILITIES FAQs thread, there is information about special diets and how to contact WDW about diets.

You do NOT need a letter or anything from the doctor to bring in your child's special food. That is an accommodation that he needs for his disability; the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) says that you can't be forced to show any proof of disability in order to get accommodation for needs related to that disability.
As for charging, they can and sometimes do, charge an entertainment fee for the character meals. In most cases, it will be the server who either charges or does not charge you. I would mention that your son can only eat the food you have brought with for him to eat at the time you are seated and your server comes to introduce him/her self.

If you need to store his food in the park, you would be able to rent a locker or you could bring it to First Aid. For your resort, if you are staying at a Moderate, Deluxe or Home Away from Home (DVC) room, you will have a refrigerator in your room. If you are in a Value resort, there are no refrigerators in the room. You can request one and request for the regular fee to be waived since you need it for medical reasons. Check your statement when you check out just to make sure you were not charged by mistake.
