help with dirt devil power stick

I git one for Christmas and of course the directions are gone. How do I empty out the dirt cup? I can't figure out how to open it up.

On mine there is a black button on the side of it that you push and the whole bottom part comes off.

I did that.but then how to I pull the "lid" off to empty? Thanks!

according to the manual you are just supposed to grab the tab in the center of the filter and lift
