We have a party of 12. 6 adults, 6 kids ages 3,5,8,9,12,12. Right now I have ADR for the Fantasmic Dinner Package at Mama Melrose. But now I'm thinking about 50's Prime Time instead and just having Grandma and Granddaddy wait in line for Fantasmic. I have not eaten at either. Which would you reccommend?

And please don't tell DH I'm thinking about changing something else. I've got too much time left on my hands.

I have not eaten at Moma Melrose, but have at 50's Prime & wasn't really thrilled with them. I tend to like Sci Fi.... a friend of mine, when ever her & her family go, they always eat at Moma Melrose (that is their favorite place to eat). I choose not to because when I eat Italian food I want real Italian food... (I'm Italian) and while it may be good there, it isn't the real thing.

I have also herd good things about Hollywood & Vine, and you can do the fantasmic package there.
We are trying that next trip.

With a party as large as your I'd go for the Fantasmic package is possible.

Would Grandma and Granddaddy be the only ones watching Fantasmic? And everyone else would be skipping it?

We would all be going to Fantasmic but I was thinking we could take turns waiting in line.

I would think that with a party of 12, it might be better to do the package. That way, you have a reserved seat and you can eat dinner as a group rather than running back and forth.

I'd choose Mama Melrose's food over the 50's diner any day of the week. My .00003 of a cent would be to stick with your package.

50's is awesome and one of our favorites but even I would stick with the package because of the large number in your party. Is it even possible to have a couple of people rotating in the waiting line for seats for 12 of you?

We think that 50's is one of the best meals at MGM. We had a wonderful time in Sept and will return in Feb. We tried many different items with our party of 6 and my MIL said the Salmon was among the best she has ever had. I had the pot roast and DS had the steak, we felt the food was outstanding and we loved the Aunt's and Uncle's bossing people around in fun. Although with a party your size you may want to keep the package for the reason stated to have the reserved section. :sunny:

We loved Mama Melrose - great atmosphere, great good and lovely staff. The reserved seating at Fantasmic was great too. With such a lot of people, I'd rather enjoy the meal and then know you won't have a problem getting to see the show. Also, from what I recall, Fantasmic was a bit of a walk up a hill - not TOO far but I couldn't imagine having to run back and forth - waaaaaaaay too much stress! :teeth:

The food at Mama Melrose is excellent! Keep the package and eat at Mama's. 50's takes a little longer because of the "entertainment" if that's what they call it....someone telling you you have to keep your elbows off the table, eat everything on your plate or you won't get dessert. You can always try 50's when you're not such a large party.

Thanks for the replies. I think we'll stick with Mama Melrose. I thought it would be pretty funny at 50s prime time for the older kids in our party, but I think the convience of the package will be better.

If it makes you feel any better, we didn't really care for 50's PTC. And I was sooo looking forward to it. I can't really even remember what I ate, the food was so-so, but our waiter was a dud. He didn't joke around with us at all, so the atmosphere was not what it could have been. I guess that is the chance you take on places like that, so much depends on the wait staff. They can really make or break your meal.
We are going to try Hollywood & Vine with our Fantasmic package in March. I would love to try Mama's or even Brown Derby, but for economical reasons, we decided to try H&V. I hope it is good.

I just booked our ADR at Moma Melrose at 4:45 with the show starting at 7pm. Is that enough time? I understand there is a line just for people with a dinner package at Fantasmic...is that line long too? Thanks!

I'm glad you decide to stick with the Fantasmic package. If I were waiting in the Fantasmic line behind your two family members and just before show time 10 more folks showed up and joined the line ahead of me, I'd be unhappy to say the least.
