I'm trying to figure something out and need help deciding... one of my cousin's passed away this week. It was completely unexpected - she died of a drug overdose. :( At the service for her, my uncle had them play the song "Daddy's Little Girl" (the one sung by Al Martino). Someone said that the reason he wanted this played is because he'd never get the chance to dance with his daughter on her wedding day so it was kind of a last goodbye to her. I was going to use this song to dance with my dad at my wedding this May but now I'm not sure if it would be the right thing to do. Does anyone have any opinions on what I should do????? Thanks!

Hmmm... I can see how that might be really sad for your family to hear that song again.

I can tell you that I once went to a wedding where they played a Josh Groban song that was played at the grandfather's funeral and half the wedding guests burst into tears. But maybe that's not necessarily bad - maybe it was also a way to remember the grandfather at the wedding and no one minded getting a little emotional....

If you're looking for another daddy/daughter dance song, I used Butterfly Kisses for my wedding. It really is a beautiful song.

Butterfly kisses was played at our wedding for my wife and her father, I think it is a perfect father daughter dance....

I would personally talk to people like your uncle and people close to your cousin and get their opinion. Maybe they'd like it if you played it, but maybe they'd be really upset. See how they react and use that to help your decision on whether or not to do it.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I think I am going to talk to my uncle and a couple of other people who were really close to her and see what they think... I'm going to give it a couple more weeks though to let a little more time go past since it hasn't been a week yet since her passing... Thanks again!!!

I Loved Her First is a great father/daughter dance song... if you like country music. That's a tough decision for you! Hope everything works out!

I'm sorry for your family's loss. If you had your heart set on that song, I'm really sorry that it now has a sad connotation to it. I have to tell you that even after 3 years there are a couple of songs that still make me and my kids cry because they were playing when my father was on his deathbed and then they were sung at his funeral and at my mom's 16 days later. I am not sure your family would get past the sad memory of the funeral.

I really hope you are able to find a happy solution.

I'm sure if you speak to your uncle and other family members, they wouldn't have a problem with it. If you already had your heart set on that song, I'm sure that they'll be understanding. It will most likely cause a few sad tears, but I'm sure that your family would want you and your father to dance to the song you wanted. I'm also very sorry for your family's loss, and I hope it all works out.

Thanks everyone for the condolences ~ it's definitely really sad and hard. Not a decision I ever expected to have to make. :sad1:
