We bought our dd20 a new computer for school this past August. She wanted a small one, but we didnt want to get a netbook, so we got the Dell mini laptop. This computer is smaller so it doesnt have a cd drive in it. DD's birthday is in a couple of weeks and she says she actually wants an external drive to be able to watch dvd's on the computer. What exactly am I looking for?? I went to amazon and there are so many. Can anyone help me with suggestions for a reasonable cd drive...and suggestions on what specs I should look for. Thanks

Make sure you get her a DVD drive...the previous poster's suggestion is a good one. Most anything you'll find at the store, like Best Buy, or a computer store will be sufficient. Also, if it's within your budget, you could get her a Netflix membership for $8 a month. She can watch movies online directly from their website to her computer.:thumbsup2

I believe they allow up to four devices to watch movies on. Get the membership for your house and she can be one of the four users allowed. :thumbsup2

Thanks so much for the suggestion and link! That one looks good and is what I figured I would spend~~$50. From reading the description it appears some of them have an ac adaptor as well, but this doesnt. That is good to know. One less thing to plug in. Also it looks like some require 2 usb ports, but this one only requires one.

I have never checked into netflix. Do you have to sign into a long contract with them, or is it month to month?
Thanks again guys!

Netflix is a month to month service. I love them; been using them for years now. We'll stop our service for several months here and there because we get busy and then restart it later.

This sounds great! I just checked on their website and they have a one month free trial too. I think I will sign her up for this for her birthday as another present...and give her a couple of months:thumbsup2 Thanks :thumbsup2
