To my budget-minded friends of the DIS,

I love having a clean kitchen floor (I have linoleum floors), but it doesn't stay that way for long. I have health issues that makes it hard to get down on my hands and knees for periods long enough to clean my kitchen floor so I have been using mops. However, I can't seem to find one that really works!! I have tried the old fashioned (string) mops, Swiffer-type mops and foam-headed mops...nothing seems to work well for long!!

Please help me find a mop that will work for me!!

Thanks!
IVY :)

I find swiffer wet clothes do alright for making it shiny and smelling good. But I usually wind up using a cloth rag and some dish soap for getting the bad spots out. I just toss it under my shoe and walk across the floor till I get all the spots, then go over it with a swiffer.

I have a Eureka steam mop that does the job quite well. Use distilled water, give it a couple of minutes to steam, and then mop. That's all there is to it!

I love my Shark Steam mop. The Swifter refills were expensive and I didn't like the smell.

Vote number 3 for the steam mop. I have the Bissel and love it. Only thing I have to bend down for is if the kids drop stickers (which they tend to do when they eat fruit, those little apple ones are the worst).

Love my shark steam mop also. Once you use hot steam to clean there's no going back :)

I am using the Libman mop which does a good job. I use vinegar and water on the hardwood and bleach and water on the kitchen.

I have to say something about the steam mop. I had the Shark deluxe one but returned it because I couldn't stand the piles of dirt it made in the corners. It pushed the dirt around and collected like under the cabinets.

I just bought a Shark steam mop yesterday and used it for the first time last night at midnight. I was so excited to try it, I couldn't wait until morning! When we moved into our house, the kitchen floor (old gross peel and stick linoleum) hadn't been cleaned in years, literally. I couldn't bare the thought of getting down on my hands and knees to scrub god knows what, so I never did. The floor has been Swiffered, but that's the extent of it. So you've got however many years of not cleaning from the previous owners, I'd say at least 5, and 5 years of just Swiffer wet jet from us. It was gross! I tried hands and knees with scrub brush once when I was pg, but it took waaaaay too long and killed my back. 2 hrs on 2 rows of floor tiles. Anyway, just wanted to give you an idea of the dirt and grime on my floors.

It took me an hour but it got a disgusting amount of dirt and grime up. I went through both of the pads, they were both completely black. So worth it! I can't wait until I clean it again to see how much more I can get. I bought the cheapest model, $60 at Target. The handle is flimsy, you can't really scrub with it like you can with the Swiffer (hopefully that won't be a problem as I get the floors more clean). Also, the tank is small. I had to refill it 4 times to get through my small 12'x10' kitchen. However, I don't think this will be a problem in the future either as I won't have so many stubborn spots where I have to let the mop sit and steam to break it up.

There's an awesome user review on amazon of 4 or 5 steam mops. I found it under the shark page. Although my Shark does have some shortcomings, it was well worth the money for me! It saved my back and enables me to walk barefoot in my kitchen and even let my daughter in there, lol.
