Help with choice of home resort

Yes I will be paying cash. I never finance my vacations (or anything except my house). This is why I can't afford to buy all my points at the Poly!

Seems like it changed a year ago. They'll sell 50 direct to a new member. I believe you have to pay cause. I don't think they'll finance anything less than 100 points.

They offered financing for 70 points but we paid cash. Financing for a want is never a good idea in our opinion. I did enjoy when our guide asked us if Mickey would give a happy or sad face when he looked at our credit score lol.

Well I took the plunge and bought 60 points direct at the Polynesian! This is enough to get us a week there every other year in the Oct-Dec time period. I will be adding a SSR resale contract next year to get to my goal of around 300 points. They did confirm that you could join as a new member at any resort with a minimum of 50 points. This will put me a little above what I had originally budgeted, but it gives me 11 months at the Poly and another year to save some more before I buy the big contract. Thanks for all of the help I have gotten here. I am so excited to get to book my spring trip on points!

Congratulations and welcome home! Hope you and your family will enjoy DVC for many years to come, as our family has.

Congratulations!! Based on all that you've written, I suspect you made the most prudent choice!

You get to go in March on points at poly. You get to save $$ using your dvc membership discounts (plus totwl and the new Epcot lounge).

I really like poly. I have only stayed at bwv, BLT, akv and poly. On our next trip in early December we are staying in 1bds at our homes (BLT and bwv), then switching to the poly. A bcv 1bd was open but I'm already doing bwv. I preferred going back to poly.

I just like it there. The electric parade. The dole whip. The beach. The energy at the pool. Captain cooks. Trader SAMs. The monorail. I cant wait to go back in December as the last leg of our 3 resort trip over 10 days....

I might want to shoot myself though. Moving 3 times in a trip....

Yeah. My mom and I always seem to end up at the Poly at least one night of our vacation even without staying there. The entire atmosphere makes us so happy. We love trader sams! We will also be at the beach club a week in October for food and wine, so we will be getting good use out of the member benefits! My mom is already planning her trip to Hawaii to stay at Aulani once I buy more points!

Congrats!! We are looking forward to our first Poly trip next year but first I have to focus on DL in August lol. Can't wait to book my first DVC stay though.

Oh I have 3 trips planned before my first DVC stay, lol! I have a slight problem, which is why I decided I needed to join instead of renting onsite every visit!

I bought at DVC (AKV) only being familiar with OKW prior to purchasing. There is so much information online from descriptions to pricing to photos to layouts, that I was comfortable making a purchase without in person touring. When I bought in 2012 the pricing was so low via resale that I really wanted to take advantage of that.

I received my membership card months ago, but my wife didn't. They told me to contact them in April after they were done sending out all the new membership cards. I did, and my wife received her new card yesterday.

Well I can officially say I have signed all my paperwork and booked my first stay at the Poly on points for next March! I am so excited! My mom and I are staying at a Poly studio this July for 4 nights that I reserved on an AP discount and have no plans for that trip other than to relax and ride the new Soarin', so we are going to go check out SSR and BLT (the two resorts I have narrowed down to make my large purchase). My mom was not thrilled with the online room tour of the BLT studios, so if we aren't impressed in person will do SSR for the most economical choice. BLT is the second most economical choice. I have a small contract now that guarantees we will at least be at the Poly (the resort we love the most) at least once every other year, so I am happy to make a smart, economical decision for the rest of my points! Thanks to all of the advice here I think I have made the best choice for us. (I didn't have any issues with my first use of the website, but I also didn't get my email with my activation code like I was supposed to and had to call for it. Disney IT is always a little suspect, but so is my IT at work so I think I'm just used to it, lol!)
