Alright, I know we have some real cat folks out there, and I need help. My middle cat (got 3 altogether), is just falling apart. He is overweight (he weighs about 17 pounds), he's diabetic (he gets insulin 2x a day), he's had megacolon, and he's 12 years old. He is now pooping and vomiting on my carpets! The facts : nothing has changed, same cat food, same water, same cat litter (we have 2 boxes which are scooped out daily), I have one box without a lid so he doesn't feel cramped doing his business, he goes to the vet annually for check-ups or whenever he is sick, and he's an indoor cat. I don't mind the mess when it's on the hardwood floors, but now my son has brown stains on his carpet. The baby walks around, pointing to the floor, going, "Poop...poop". This is getting disgusting and embarrassing. Please send advice.

Even though I have a kitty, I haven't experienced any of these problems. Just bumping up for you in case you haven't heard anything.

cmbelle, I think my best advice would be to get him to your Vet's office ASAP, since he's a diabetic and a senior.I really believe that this is a health related matter and should be seen by a Vet.:(

Good luck and let us know how he makes out. I know it's so hard when we see our cats take ill.:(

I have no experience with this either, poor kitty. I would definately take kitty to the vet.

I would take him to a vet too. With him being so old and already has health problems I'd take him as soon as I could.

What is wrong with this picture...

Obese diabetic cat
Only seeing a vet once a year or when sick (who is monitoring sugar levels?)
Obviously ill, but your concerned about embarrassment and disgust, and you're asking people online how to fix it?????

Well, I was hoping someone had a similar experience. I think it's just a bad habit he has developed, and was hoping someone had some behavioral tricks up their sleeves.

The vet checks sugar levels every 6 months since blood sugar levels have seemed to level off. Of course, when the cat first got diagnosed, he had to go in every few weeks, which absolutely freaked the cat out, causing his sugar levels to go off the chart, and the vet ended up prescribing too much insulin. Which then made the cat (Li Shou) even more sick. It was not a pleasant experience - for anyone. But thanks for your concern.
