I still havent booked car hire and im panicing a bit :-(

We want an intermediate suv 20/11 to 5/12 pick up mco

Please help me find a good deal :-)

If only there was something on the internet that would search things like that for you, you know a search engine? :-)

Sarcasm aside i used Alamo brits (google with get you the proper link) and got a half decent deal. We collected and dropped from the Dolphin. If you are staying on site i would recommend doing DME to get to resort, then pick car up the next day after a nice sleep. Collection desk in Dolphin is open from 8am. Take a bus from hotel to HS and walk along the river to the Dolphon (boats don't start until 9am) Hire desk is in Guest Services.

If staying off site, desks are in area A on Ground floor of terminal. Be careful, it's odd driving on the wrong side of the road and the wrong side of the car too. Positioning in the lane is iffy to get used too, and you'll be tired from the flight.

If you have an Android Phone, i would suggest purchasing Co-Pilot GPS for America, rather than hiring a GPS, and you can get used to how to use it before you go, and add addresses in.

If only there was a google for car hire ;-)

Having been going for ten plus years this is the first year im at a loss with car hire :-( normally just book with usrentacar but im sure it can be done cheaper :-(

Ill have a look at the brits guide deal with alamo thanks :-)

Post best price you can find and I will try look later and see if I can beat it.

£288 with brits guide

£272 with tracel supermarket but i have no clue who thats booked with so bit weary on that one

Both have no fuel added, brits guide has extra drivers but im the only driver so not too fussed about that

We found that the Hess Fuel station just pass the entrance to Universal was the cheapest for fuel, if that is in your area.

We did find a car hire search engine - but i can't remember the site, hope you can excuse my sarcasm :-) i was only joking. Have a great hols...

Last few days the 2 gas stations at LBV have been having some kind of price war, each day they have been trying to be the lowest getting down to $3.07 compared to Hess at £3.20, I think they must have given up playing their game though as they have all gone back up today, I filled up at Hess near MK this morning at $3.25

Cheapest I see is with this link thru Quidco http://www.quidco.com/carrentals-co-uk/ they give 7% cashback on a rental with erentals.co.uk which means final price would be £230.12 but I have never used them to know what they are like.

My choice would be Hertz using Quidco for 10% cashback and the code below for 15% discount
http://www.quidco.com/hertz-car-rental/
Enter CDP code 758676
Final cost would be £256.14, £26 more than the other quote but Hertz are by far my favourite rental company. If you are a Gold member(try join if not) collection is easier than any other company. For this car I have now I collected at Tampa airport, on the road within minutes.

We noticed this at the Shell and 7-11 at the junction of Poinciana and 17-92 - down to 3.18 yesterday, drove past today and it's 3.26. Makes me glad i prepaid for my tank at 3.17!

Echoing your last post wayne, Hertz collection in the US as a gold member is a doddle - straight out to the garage, check the arrivals-style board for your name it'll point you right at the space to find your car. Jump in, stop at the exit point and present your licence, decline the extra insurances, yes/no the prepaid fuel depending on prices in the area compared with what you're offered, and off you go. We were out the door so to speak in under 5 minutes from walking into the garage to driving out. :goodvibes

Hertz just sent me another email with appology over yesterdays email. Yesterday they said 20% discount yet the code only gave 15% so new code 758670 gives 20%.
Your new price is £267.86 less 10% Quidco = £241.07

Thanks wayne, just seen this as no email to say i had replies :-)

Can only see a suv for 358 with the discount, how did you find thatprice?

When you get to the results page at the top of the cars it says showing 1-10 Show all (39)
Click on show all, then click on Int SUV, click get Quote, next page click on Secure check out and you will get price of £265 (slightly less than a few days ago)
Only 8% Quidco now though, the 10% offer is over. Still £243 is about best you will get after cashback

Oh silly me didnt even see that :-) thanks wayne can always count on you :-)

And how does fuel work? Sorry only every donw the insurance with the fuel included

Sorry it says estimated charge does that mean i pay when we arrive?

And how does fuel work? Sorry only every donw the insurance with the fuel included

On Saturday I filled up a couple of miles away from Tampa airport and returned it full so I had no fees to pay Hertz, the reciept said $0.
When I collect the one in April I didn't know but in my Gold account settings I had ticked I wanted to prepay a tank, I was charged about $90 which was a bit OTT, I reckon the tank held $70, thats why for this rental I unticked the box and filled before returning.

Worst option is to return empty without arranging prepay, I read the small print and it said something like $9.31/gal for them to refill, approx 3 times pump price.

No, its a prepay rate, price is final when you pay, I assume it means estimated incase you add on anything else before booking, or exchange rate changes before you pay, not sure but its always been the same.
Just make sure you click prepay online, that is in £'s
Pay at Location is in $'s, more expensive and no cashback.

Have you registered for Gold membership yet? its better if you have that first before making a booking https://www.hertz.co.uk/rentacar/member/enrollment

No i will do :-) thanks for all your help with this :-)

Do you get to pick the car like the others or is it picked for you when you arrive at the garage?

You get a car allocated, some locations like Miami is an electronic board, you find your name and it has a bay number, goto the bay and the car is there with key in, load up and drive to the exit showing your DL. I think thats what MCO is also like.
A different way is like Tampa, you goto the Gold kiosk in the garage, again no line, the key & paperwork is there waiting, they hand it over and you get a bay number fo rthe car, then just drive out.
If for any reason you dislike the car, you can choose from the Gold selection, I have never had to do this myself, happy with all 3 cars I have had from them so far.
