We just stayed at the Motel 6 around the corner from DLR. Even though it is a Good Neighbor hotel, I was worried that it was going to be really awful, because nobody here really ever talks about it. It used to be a Red Roof Inn, and I think when it was, it was not very nice. However, it has been a M6 for a couple years now, I think, and it has all been renovated. I was VERY pleasantly surprised. With the exception of a small (1 inch diameter) spot- which looked like spilled jam that stained and wouldn't come out- near the micro/fridge (not in every room- $5/night upgrade,) our room was immaculate. The first thing I did when I got there was rip the beds apart to make sure all the linens were clean. They were. Then I went into the bathroom with an antibacterial cleaning wipe, and it came out clean when I wiped the tub. The maids did a great job cleaning every day. The cups they provide are plastic, wrapped in plastic, which isn't great for the environment, but is great for peace of mind. And the ice machines are the kind that makes its own ice and dispenses it, all enclosed, so only the people who service it can get into it and touch the ice.
The staff was great, our room was actually very, very roomy (I have a picture somewhere of our room, and can try to find it for you tomorrow if you want it- I'm dealing with a very bad cold a jet lag right now, so no telling when I will be up in the AM) and it was a less-than-10-minute walk. Would have been quicker if we didn't have to carry dd4 most of the way. Also, the have complimentary coffee, tea, lattes, and cocoa from 5-10 AM. Not bad for such a cheap price.
We paid about $53 a night. We decided on Thursday that we really needed to stay Friday night instead of driving back to Riverside (needed a place to try to get DD to nap during the afternoon) so we asked for another night. With tax, that night (a weekend rate night) cost us almost $80.
Good luck and hope that helps you or someone else.
