We are looking for a budget friendly yet very clean hotel to stay at for one night, March 20th. We leave the 21st on a cruise so it doesn't have to be fancy just budget friendly and CLEAN. Walking distance is a plus. We usually use hotwire and stay at the Hilton Suites but hotwire isn't pulling up much for this day. Any suggestions fellow disers? We've already tried the HOJO and they are 149.00 per night. TIA!

Because it's last minute during Spring Break high peak period, your pickins are gonna be slim. Here's some that I would try:

Anaheim Plaza
Tropicana
Fairfield

Further away:

Portofino
Anabella

Did you try the Kayak search engine? You can put in the preferences distance from DLR.

Never been able to get Kayak to work for 6 people and one room

Do you have a favorite of these? I'll definitely look into Kayak, thanks!

We just stayed at the Motel 6 around the corner from DLR. Even though it is a Good Neighbor hotel, I was worried that it was going to be really awful, because nobody here really ever talks about it. It used to be a Red Roof Inn, and I think when it was, it was not very nice. However, it has been a M6 for a couple years now, I think, and it has all been renovated. I was VERY pleasantly surprised. With the exception of a small (1 inch diameter) spot- which looked like spilled jam that stained and wouldn't come out- near the micro/fridge (not in every room- $5/night upgrade,) our room was immaculate. The first thing I did when I got there was rip the beds apart to make sure all the linens were clean. They were. Then I went into the bathroom with an antibacterial cleaning wipe, and it came out clean when I wiped the tub. The maids did a great job cleaning every day. The cups they provide are plastic, wrapped in plastic, which isn't great for the environment, but is great for peace of mind. And the ice machines are the kind that makes its own ice and dispenses it, all enclosed, so only the people who service it can get into it and touch the ice.

The staff was great, our room was actually very, very roomy (I have a picture somewhere of our room, and can try to find it for you tomorrow if you want it- I'm dealing with a very bad cold a jet lag right now, so no telling when I will be up in the AM) and it was a less-than-10-minute walk. Would have been quicker if we didn't have to carry dd4 most of the way. Also, the have complimentary coffee, tea, lattes, and cocoa from 5-10 AM. Not bad for such a cheap price.

We paid about $53 a night. We decided on Thursday that we really needed to stay Friday night instead of driving back to Riverside (needed a place to try to get DD to nap during the afternoon) so we asked for another night. With tax, that night (a weekend rate night) cost us almost $80.

Good luck and hope that helps you or someone else.

Thank you for your review, I am still really considering this for our trip next year. You should post a pic in the hotel pic thread-- I'd love to see it. How was the jacuzzi?

Thanks Kimberlina!

Motel 6 sounds like a great place for my dad & step mom if they decide to join us!

You're both welcome. Found the pic- it is pretty bad (I mean, I just took it quickly as an afterthought when we were leaving for the day and it wasn't a good angle and our junk is all over the place- meant to take another one or two to post here but forgot) but FWIW, I will try to post it to the hotel pic thread (where is that, BTW?) I do have a pretty shot of the pool courtyard, though. Anyway, they are both on DD's computer and I can't post until she is done playing her Dora game.

I didn't go in the heated pool or jacuzzi, but DH and DD did. He said the jacuzzi was fine. I didn't even see it, actually, because even though our room overlooked the pool area, I was just never at the right angle, I guess, and I never went down there, because the pool isn't a huge draw for me- we have one so it isn't novel anymore, KWIM? :)

We like the Tropicana, very close, clean, and you'll like the hot tub and pool! :)

We stayed at the Motel 6 when it was the Red Roof. Glad to hear they've made improvements. I mean it wasn't horrible but the elevator was broken, some of the tiles by the pool were missing/kinda sharp. The room was just "okay". One night next door the alarm clock went off (no one in there) and it took over 2 hours for them to go in and turn it off. That was very annoying! We were so tired the next day. With improvements we'd consider staying there again though. But they aren't all that close so we usually stay closer now.

I agree with this review.

I just got back from this motel and was definitely worried it was going to be a crappy place but it was an nice place for a great price. The walk was also very short distance, I had older kids so the age of your kids might change the walking distance time.
