help with booking at the 7th month window

i have been reading various threads that touch on this subject and i am still a bit confused. what i need to know is what is the correct proceedure for booking at the 7th month window. we have our DVC at SSR with a march use year. we are looking to try and possible book at another resort, preferably BWV standard view, this next july, after the 4th. should i book a stay at SSR for the dates we want first and then try and get another resort or should i wait and just try and get the reservation for where we want at the 7th month window. we really wouldnt mind any of the other dvc resorts so i really dont think that getting a reservation at another resort is going to be difficult but BWV, BCV and WLV are the ones i want to stay at the most.

The best approach depends in large part as to how many points you have. In general, booking home resort at 11 months out then trying to change over at 7 months is the best approach. There are many variables but if you have enough points to reserve the 7 month option to the last night before you cancel the home resort reservation, you will be in the best position possible. Of course you can imagine multiple scenarios which in the extreme might have you booking every single WDW resort at 7 months out until you get the entire trip booked.

Also be aware that BWV standard view is possibly the most difficult reservation to make at the 7 month window, and you are talking about the busy summer time. Make your ressie at SSR now, and try to book what you want at the 7 month window. You may have to be prepared to call day by day and waitlist.

I am have a little scenario in mt head that leads on from ths question and I was wondering if you could tell me if it is to-able or not.

If say for example I booked 2 weeks at my home resort at 11 months but then at 7 months wanted to book 2 more weeks (day by day ) at another resort but unfortunately I only have enough points in my 2006 use year for 2 weeks total. Could I borrow points from my 2007 use year to make the second booking and then once I have all of the days that I need, cancel the first booking in total and then bank all of those original points into 2007 (As long as I haven't passed the banking deadline !!). So that way I don't waste any points I don't need, but also making sure I cover all possibilities i case I can not get the ressie at 7 months !!

Absolutely. You'd have decide if you wanted to end up next year with banked points instead of "current year" points due to this action.

Can I cancel the original ressie so that the banked points become free and then substitute those points onto the other ressie (the one made at 7 mths) meaning I then free up all of my 2007 points and I can then bank them into 2008.

Wow that sounds a lot more complex then it really should be, but I hope you understand what I am trying to get at. All I am trying to establish is if a ressie is made with one set of points(i.e current UY points) can it be replaced with banked points at a later date , or if once the ressie is made thats it no change allowed !!!

I have been successful reallocating points for a reservation as you suggest. MS is generally sympathetic to this sort of thing. However, the risk is that someone else is waitlisted for the reservation you ultimately want to keep. Technically, this transaction would be treated as a cancel and re-book so you might end up losing the ressie you actually want to keep.
In summary you book SSR at 11 months with banked points
At seven months you book BCV with current points
You then cancel SSR leaving you with banked points you can't use.
If no one else wants your BCV dates you can reallocate points

It'll be handled on a case by case basis. As a rule it will be a cancel then rebook but it will vary with the CM who answers the phone.
