I was at work today looking at my DL map and panic came over me...don't know why I didn't think of this sooner. I have a 5 year old that is scared to death of automatic toilets. She doesn't really like any public toilets but those are worse. And when someone else flushes that scares her too. What are the potties like at DL? I can't remember from our last trip. Please someone.

My DD7 and DD4 are the same way, so I feel your pain! Yes, unfortunately, the toilets at DLR are the automatic variety. Here's a tip I learned: bring a pad of sticky notes. If you put the sticky note over the sensor, they won't flush until you remove it. If I don't do this, I end up having to stand in the stall holding my hand over the sensor continuously promising I won't move my hand.

Supposedly, there are child sized toilets of the manual variety in the childcare center on Main Street. I haven't checked this out myself, so I don't know for certain if it's the case, but would definitely be worth checking out if you're DD is really in desperate need.

One of my boys had a huge issue with this a little bit ago, but now we take a strip of toilet paper and put it over the sensor and it won't flush until he's finished.

Yes! The post it trick is great. And the Baby Center potties are little like those in preschools but they are for children under 42".

We've had 5 years of experience in Baby Care and both DL and DCA Baby Care have small, manual flush toilets for the kids. It is important to say again - 42 inches is the cutoff, so make sure your child isn't too tall!

Thank goodness we did not have potty issues when the kids were small. But, from what I have read here it seems kinda common. The post-its seem like the trick for the automatic flush. But, you also mentioned your child hearing other flushes was a scarry issue. I hope this can also help. Over by the Plaza Gardens Stage is the only one toilet, bathroom I know of. Then the other small restrooms, are behind the Carnation Cafe on Main Street, and on Tom Sawyers Island. That's it for DL. I hope other will chime in on ones that I do not know of. As for DTD, in the Disney Store. It is small 3 stalls I believe. The hotels, only the DLR has a small restroom by the gift shop. DCA, wow can't think of one that is not huge. But, now with so many of the Family bathrooms, maybe those would work. Can't say I have ever used one. But, I believe they are just one toilet per room, maybe that is your answer. Good Luck. :tink:

I've been through the same situation with my DD. Thank heavens she is older now and somewhat better. But even at 10 she would rather hold it all day than go to one of those self-flushers. The post it notes work fairly well but are not always fail proof. A little surprise in the middle of getting your business done can ruin the whole deal, if you know what I mean! At any rate, I just happened to have found a link on this very topic not too long ago that provides the locations of the different types of toilets throughout the park. Keep in mind I do not know how up to date the link is but it does give one a jump start as to where to check for manual flushers. Good luck!

And, I might add that they do strictly enforce the 42" height rule at the Baby Center.

You can also ask any Custodial, Disney Vaction Club or Gift Shop Host or Hostess for a Mickey Mouse sticker. They work quite well if you don't want to bring sticky notes with you.

Great tip ! Thank you.

Thanks mariezp. this link will really help. DS is recently potty trained and I need to be aware of the closest restroom when we are out ; specially at a place like DL where he will be so excited / distracted that he won't "realize" or tell me until he can't hold it anymore.
He's scared of automatic flushes and refuses to enter the stall if it doesn't have a manual flesh. I am hoping to help him overcome his fear with post-it's but this link gives info on manual toilets so it's very helpful.

Try going to the first aid restrooms. I am pretty sure they flush manually (though I could be wrong). At least you would be the only ones in the bathroom and that might ease the anxiety.

Seriously? There's a potty police? :rotfl2:

Believe it!

That's actually one of my not so fond memories of Disneyland, it was years ago, and I still remember it.

I was in the Baby Center changing DD #2 when DD #1 decided she had to go, and she had to go now. Even though she was only 4 years old, she was over 42 inches tall, so the attendant absolutely refused to let her use the kiddie potties. The adult restroom was occupied, so I had to scoop up the baby (sans diaper IIRC) and rush her out and hand her off to DH so I could make a mad dash to the nearest public restroom with DD #1. Talk about defeating the whole purpose of the calm, quiet baby care center. Uggg! :sad2:

No seriously, of course, there are no potty police but the woman who turned us away had a pretty strong resolve to be able to look at my daughter as she stood there squirming and fidgeting as she tried to keep from peeing her pants. Sure, she shouldn't wait til the last minute but isn't that what most kids do? Anyway, thankfully, we made it elsewhere in time but it was pretty iffy there for awhile!

In addition let me just say that I realize they do have rules that they must enforce and I have no problem with that at all. I don't feel like we deserve any special treatment whatsoever. I just wanted to pass along my observation in case it might spare someone else from heading there first when they could save time (and quite possibly embarrassment) by going to another restroom first.

Well, they are serious about it!
I guess I don't have to worry about that any more. My boy's not really a boy any more. Almost 20. I guess we'll wait till he's married with his own kids ;) BTW I surely hope that's a really long time:scared1:
