Help with baby girl names

I just think it is neat - It puts a girl on equal playing ground or something - and if she hates it - she always can fall back on her full femine name.

i have a rather common name, but it is the uncommon spelling (i'm gayle vs. the more popular gail). i hated my name growing up-there were never any personalized items with my spelling of it, and i (to this day) always get mail with it misspelled. when we were expecting our first child we set out to find names that (1) would be unique but not so much as to exclude the child from being able to find thier name printed on items or included in stories (which i always though would be neat when i was little),(2) provide an opportunity for multiple nicknames or variations when they got older (no nicknames for gayle, and my husband hated being called jimmie), (3) be easy in pronunciation-i hate to have to ask people how to say their name and i have friends who have dropped thier given name for just this reason.

we settled on marissa. we figured she could be: missa, maris, mari or isa if she chose to. she has encountered some marissas in her 11 years, but never one in her classroom. she is able to find personalized items.

for our second pregnancy (a boy), my husband was adamant that he did not want a name that could be shortened or altered to embarrasing results (he endured jimmie and jamie)-we settled on spencer (spence for short).

Well, I and my now ex-fiance (possibly getting back together soon) already decided to name our daughters (if we have any) Alexis and Alina.
Personally, I have always love Lily Elena, but he shot that down.

My sister named her two daughters Melinda Jenna and Adrianne Jane.

My niece named her daughters Madylyn Paige, Julianna Sky and Stephanie Ruth.
My own name is Teresa and my Goddaughter's names are Ramsey Noel and Kira.

My girls are Dierdre Kathryn and Caroline Clare. I also love Madeline, Rebecca, Ella, Meghan, Siobhan, and Aisling (we're a little Irish...). Naming girls is so much fun! Just keep in mind that the baby has to live with the name for the rest of their life, and may one day have their name on a business card...

Hello and Good morning. We had two beautiful DD's.
Their names are: Cassidy Grace and Kaitlyn Denise.
I really wanted Tessa for my second DD but my husband wouldn't agree. I like names that aren't too popular and then I ended up with Kaitlyn, one of the most popular names out there. Oh well. My husband and I had a hard time agreeing on girls names.

Congradulations and good like with choosing a name for your little princess. Girls are so much fun!

Dazzled That is SO funny! I was about to say that I have read a lot of these posts and not seen my DDs names yet, and then yours is the very last post! I also have a Cassidy Grace. I thought it was going to be an uncommon name, but we have met a few other Cassidys (our DD is 6). Our other DD is Skylar Elizabeth. We have met a few other Skylars as well (she is 3). Oh, I also noticed you are also in MD. Maybe your DD is one of the Cassidys we know.

Our DD's are Charlotte Kristin and Mary Grace (called Mary Grace). We tend to like more traditional names.

Hi, congratulations on your soon to be baby girl.

I remember when I found out I was having a boy ( my first baby) I cried! I had so wanted girls!!! Hormonal, I suppose. The ultrasound tech just laughed.....

Six years after my son, we were blessed with our first girl. I had my name ready for 7 years, so she is Lucia Emanuelle. Lucia becuase she is such a light in our lives and Emanuelle just because I thought it was elegant and it does have a special meaning.

Three and a half years later, my youngest daughter came along. I had a tough time with her name because everyone was naming their daughters Morgan and Madison and Madeleine at that time. Very trendy and I like classic, see you thru your life names. (mine is very unique - cool, but unique so I think that is why I like the more old fashioned names) She is Josephine Eleanora. Josephine for my gpa that passed away earlier, and Eleanora for my gma that also passed.

Good luck! It is a tough decision. THE name will probably just hit you one day and you will know it is the right one. My Lucy has become visually impaired and the oddest thing is that when we were going thru the diagnosis, we found out St. Lucy is the St. of eyesight/eye problems. My Josie is just like an Aunt Jo I had. She was this feisty, funloving lady that had so many fabulous life adventures she could have written a great book.(kind of like Auntie Mame) My Jo reminds me so much of her!

Wha nationality is your last name? That makes a big difference I think.....I am Irish , but DH is Italian....I have the most Italian last name and Irish names like Fiona and Caitlyn just won't work here.....If I had another girl I think I would put an Italian spin on something I like - Sarah would become Serafina - or Frances would be Franca.

My daughter is JILLIAN LEIGH. I absolutely LOVE her name. DH came up with the Jillian part and I'm so glad I agreed to it.

Another note...don't fall into the trap of trying to have a "different" name...my brother and his wife tried so hard to come up with a "different" name for their daughter 17 yrs ago and they named her Madison!!!!!! 17 yrs ago it was different...(from the Movie Splash with Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah) Well you guessed it, the poor girl can't swing a stick without hitting another Madison! A friend named her daughter Mary (the formally most used name of the century) since everyone my age thought of that as common when we were kids, they did not use it...guess what? she is the only Mary in her (large) school!

i see this with boys names too......I bet you know more Tylers and Taylors and Mac's and Hunters under the age of 10 then you know Joe's or Bob's. For their age group the names will not be common....but the ones that people think are "different" will be common.

I got a lot of, oh I know a boy named Taylor & a lot of how do you spell Mackenzie? And people either loved or hated Brooklyn..You mean after the city in New York? (either in an excited voice or a eeww, after that city in New York)

Our oldest(13) is Cassidy Cheyenne only other Cassidy we know is a boy that was born in the same hospital and has same birthday as our Cassidy.

Our youngest was named by her sister: Abigail(Abi for short) KateLynn(after two grandmas). Although there are some Abi's around they are definitely not spelled her way!! I am reading an account of the Abigail of the Bible's life and they shorten her name the same way.

Don't worry about the national popularity listings. It varies so much by area. I believe that you can do a search by county so you can see exactly how many Madeline's there are in *your* area. They say that in the 1950's that 50% of all children were named one of the 'top 10' names, and now it's only like 10% since there are so many more unique names now.

We just named our daughter born last month Cameryn. I am happy to see a few fans of the name here, even though its spelled with an "o" for most people. I spelled it with a "y" to make it more girly, because I got the "its a boys name" comments from a few people as well. I love her name!!!

We named our DD Kristen, that was our first and only choice, I loved that name since the first time I heard it. My older family members have a hard time saying her name since they don't speak English (The were born in Cuba) so they call her Cristina. and she is always telling them her name is Kristen.

I really like the names Zoe and Charlotte and am hoping for a girl someday so I can name her that! I also like the name rylan for a boy or girl. When I was pregnant with my son, my aunt said if I had a girl I should name her Disneyanna! Not in a million for me, but maybe for someone! Congrats on your daughter!

I love the name Alice, it is so sweet and classic and the best part was hardly anyone young had it, flash forward to first day of Kindergarten, not a single Madison, but another Alice!

Charmaine is my first name and it's a family tradition to pass your first name along as a middle name
