I am trying to plan a surprise 20th anniversary trip for my husband and me. Yikes! I am overwhelmed by all the choices at the Atlantis Resort. Has anyone ever been there? Can you help me with decisions about where to stay and eat?

I went there in January of 2007 with DH, and the 3 kids. We had a great time but it can be overwhelming to plan.

I can offer some suggestions of what we loved / didn't care for but the best advice I got is to go expecting to spend obscene amounts of money on food / drink / entertainment and we did - for the 5 of us (the 3 kids always just had a children's meal) we spent about $1500 on lunch / dinner w/o drinks. Breakfast was included in our trip (we earned it as a sales incentive) so lunch was light pool food most days and then dinner varied from Carmine's (we loved it) and the expensive steak place (a little stuffy for us) to the deli and Johnny rocket's.

I;m assuming that it's just you ahd DH since it's a 20th anniversary trip so a lot of what we did won't apply but if you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them.

Happy planning:cool1:

Thank you for your response. What would you consider to be the best place for us to stay in the resort? How long did you stay? What sorts of entertainment did you see? I am assuming the aquarium and the water parks are included with our hotel stay????

The "water park" area is not as large as a Disney Water park. (I just wanted to mention that so you don't go thinking there is a major water park) The aquarium areas are throughout the grounds of the resort.
If they are still offering a dining plan I would highly recommend it, as food is very pricey.
The casino is nice, as is the beach.

They also will co-ordinate offsite "excursions" as well such as sight seeing, fishing, the dolphin encounter etc.
It is a really nice place for a weekend getaway.

I think Atlantis is waaaay overpriced. I would look into some of the all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana and Cancun. Most are very kid-friendly, if the kiddos are going with you.

Any resort suggestions? (It is our anniversary--so no kids!!)

My husband and I went in Dec 05 for our 10th anniversary. We stayed in the Royal Towers concierge floor. We were only there for four days. I highly recommend purchasing the dining plan option as food was $$$$$$$. We had a great time and look forward to going back with our 3 kids. We have been on quite a few tropical vacations , so we just hung out at the resort, but there are the usual water options available, jet skis, parasailing, etc. Let me know what else you would like to know:) Good luck planning you will have a fabulous time regardless!

Stay in the Cove.....It is gorgeous. Or, the Reef is nice too, if you'd like a kitchen and the extra space. We stayed there in July and it was beautiful........

I found tons of information on Atlantis Resort over on the Cruise board.
Lots of the Disney Cruisers go over to Atlantis for the day and they can give you more himts than you can find on the resort website.
They also recommend a hotel that is near Atlantis that has privledges at Atlantis. You might be able to save some money on the hotel and still use all the resort ammenities and eat at the less expensive hotel. Check out the cruise boards.

subscribing to this thread, as I'm planning a trip there for our family for March 2010! :cool1:
