We just joined into the DVC, and as a result, purchased two of the AP's for DW and me. We are going to get PHP's for our 2 older children. We've decided the the DDP is not what we are looking for (too much food), but I'm thinking about the DDE. BUT, I heard the AP gets you a 10% discount at some of the restaurants, and if this is true, the value of the DDE just dropped. A 20% discount for the DDE sounds great, but it's only half as great if I would already get a 10% discount for having the AP. (But you can only get the DDE if you have an AP). So many rules...

HELP...

There is alot of restrictions on the 10% discount offered by AP. It is only a few select places and it is usually during only select hours... like only during lunch time , or before 4 etc. We have the DDE and it is awesome. The best thing is i s that it is almost all ts restuarants and it is all day etc. we dont have to worry about certain hours etc. It also includes alcohol which the AP does not. And it is also good at the counter services in AK and in some of the hotels that do not have TS places. We prefer the DDE and we use our ap for 10% when eatting at RFC!!

As an AP holder, you can purchase the Disney Dining Experience card. This will give you 20% off table service meals, including alcoholic beverages. In AK, you can get 20% off counter service because it doesn't have a TS restaurant. You'll get the discount for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The card costs $60, but is well worth it. I'll be using my card for my third trip in August. Because of the discount, I've eaten at restaurants I normally wouldn't have.

I've had my DDE card for years and I think it's a great deal. As someone else mentioned, the AP restaurant discounts are too restrictive. The first time you run up a big tab at, let's say the Flying Fish, after a couple of bottles of nice wine and a pricey meal, you'll love that 20% discount! It actually makes the tip easy to figure. I just pay the original, undiscounted amount.
Try it for a year and see what you think!

DDE sounds like the way to go. We'll be going to WDW 3 times over the next year, so I don't have anything to lose.

Thanks.

You also get free valet parking when using the DDE card at a resort restaurant. Tell the attendant you're there to eat on the DDE plan when you give them your car.

Does the DDE work at Hoop De DO Revue, Mickey's Backyard Bar BQ, or the Luau?

Yes, only on certain show times. HDD 9:30 show. If you go to the AP website, it will give you a list of places that accept the DDE discount. I agree with others. The AP discount is generally for Monday thru Friday and only a handful of select places (mostly resort restraurants and a few EPCOT WS ones). The DDE can be used at counter service at AK park and food courts at the All STars and Pop Century.
