Help with a white wine!

I have a lady friend coming over for lunch on Sunday. I'm a simple wine gal and usually buy Vendange for my dinner wine.

She ordered a bottle of La Crema when we went out to lunch, and insisted on picking up the bill. So I have know idea what the price range was.

I have no idea what to pick up for our luncheon. She is a dear, and I know she wouldn't look down on me for buying something mediocre, but I'd like for her to enjoy her lunch and I'm happy to splurge a bit, assuming I knew what I was doing.

TIA!

Well, if you know that she likes La Crema, buy a bottle of that. You could say "I really liked this wine when you ordered it last time, and I thought it would be nice for us to have it again with our lunch"

Don't reinvent the wheel.

Do you remember if she got the Chardonnay or the Pinot Gris? Is there a liquor store around that sells the La Crema? If so then yes, I'd just get the La Crema, but if not then if you remember if it was Chardonnay or Pinot Gris then you'd know what type to aim for.

My only problem with that is she told me that 20xx year was not a good year for La Crema but 20xy was quite good. I have no idea the years she mentioned :lmao:

I'm such an ignoramus when it comes to wines. So, I'm just looking for something that will go well with chicken in puff pastry, and roasted asparagus.

I'm sure it was Chardonnay...just don't know the year.

You can probably find that out on line. To me it would be a thoughtful gesture to not only get her the wine you REMEMBER she likes but you went and researched which year to get!

I think the idea to find the Le Crema that's a good year is a great idea. We do have a high end liquor store in town, so I'm sure someone there can point me in the right direction.

Thanks!!

I'm very familiar with La Crema :lmao: It became one of my favorite whites about 15 years ago.

I have recently enjoyed a very similar tasting wine. Shoo Fly Australian Chardonnay. You should find it for about $15. I really think your friend will enjoy it :thumbsup2

BTW, I wouldn't worry about the vintage. Wines like La Crema (accessible to the masses) are made from blended grapes from different vineyards to have a consistent flavor from year to year. Your friend probably had a bad bottle.

If you are concerned about vintage, Sonoma Chardonnay's enjoyed superior growing conditions in 2007.
