Help with a simple Algebra problem!!!

That's what I did. I think I posted 2nd in this thread, with 70.

What's confusing me is everyone posting steps. Why are you doing that? Why are you adding to the front and the back?

Nevermind... I've been drinking. It's not gonna penetrate my brain at this point, anyways.

This is an easy one to do in your head, but when you can't solve it that way, you need to do the steps where you do the same thing to both sides until you are left with the answer.

Although I have to say, a drink at this time seems like a really good idea! Thanks.

Ugh! We're doing the same thing right now. In order to get my students to do all the steps I had to make up all my own problems with HUGE numbers. If we use the problems the book gives they just want to do it in their head. This is 7th grade FYI.

I am teaching this to my students now too! You must write the steps, if you don't, when the problems get harder, you aren't going to know what to do. Just think, soon you will be doing problems like this:

2x + 10 = 100


Enjoy! because next it will be...

3x + 5 = 90 - 2x

Now...you see why you need to show your steps! You really can't do these in your head!

**to the original poster: Have your child bring home the math book. Share with the teacher that you struggle with math. The book will have examples on how to solve the problems and hopefully the teacher will give you good examples.
