Help with a point transfer question

Hey All,

I have some questions regarding transferring points. We are planning a trip for June 2012 with a bunch of family. We own at AKV. We have enough of our own points for a 2 bedroom that we will be splitting with my brother and his fam. But my parents also want to come. My plan is to find someone willing to transfer points so I could go ahead and make the ressies and link them. They will just need a studio. I guess I could just rent the points, but it seems that I would have more control with a transfer. Anyones 2 cents is greatly appreciated.

Second question; is about the use year. This is where I really get confused. Will I need to find points that are either 2011 or 2012? Can banked points be transfered? I guess I need to find points that will cover the date of the trip. What should I be looking for? Help this is where my head is about to explode trying to figure this out.

Finally, can I put up a "Transfer wanted" on the Rent/Trade board? I didn't see much info in the stickys about transfers wanted, but I know there has been a lot of new rules in that area.

This just gives me a headache thinking about it.Thanks for your help.

You will need to accept a transfer of points from AKV in order to take advantage of the 11 month priority at that resort. If view/club level is not important, you should be OK to reserve at 7 months for next June.

2011 points will work since transferred points may be banked - so any points from 2011 would work - either August or later without banking or Feb-June with banking.

Banked point cannot be transferred, so you will need to find someone with points current from the 2011 Use Year or have 2012 points transferred into your 2012 Use Year (as long as the Use Year is Feb-June - since transferred points cannot be borrowed).

As long as the transferred points are valid for stays for the dates of your trip - either as current or banked points - you will be fine.

Finally, can I put up a "Transfer wanted" on the Rent/Trade board? I didn't see much info in the stickys about transfers wanted, but I know there has been a lot of new rules in that area.

No, Transfer Wanted and/or Reservation Wanted threads are not accepted on the Rent/Trade Board but you can respond to any thread (with your request) where the OP is offering to transfer points.

That is what I was thinking but my brain is feeling a little twisted and the more I thought the more confused I was making myself.

As far as the transfer wanted; I looked on the Rent/Trade board and one of the top sticky posts is a "Transfers Wanted." Whats up with that?

That is for David's Vacation Club Rentals, a sponsor of this site, who acts as a broker for rentals and transfers between owners and customers. He is the only one who can post a transfers wanted post in that sticky.

Oh.

That kind of seems a little unfair. So this "sponsor" pays for an advertisement like the one above the rent/trade board AND gets to pedal his services by picking off much of the transfers. And no one else can even ask! Talk about an exclusive gig! Wow!! This board sure has changed a lot since I first became a member. I use to think this forum was about all of our love for Disney and helping each other with all things Disney. Now it sure seems its all about the mighty dollar as usual.

I would love to know the thoughts behind this brilliant idea.

That post was made when Trade Wanted theads were allowed and has remained since. Every "Trade Wanted" thread posted on the board while they were allowed was allowed to remain after the policy went into effect.

Anyone seeking a transfer is still able to respond to a thread offfering to transfer their points to another member. Most of these are titled "Points for Transfer" or something similar. DIS advertisers do enjoy certain benefits as a result of their support for the site.
