Hello,

I am doing a Pirate and Princess part for DDs 4th Birthday and I am making a fairly elaborate cake (I know, I am CRAZY!!). Anyway, I bought the Wilton Romantic Castle Kit for the Castle, but I wanted to make a moat (of icing) and have a Pirate Ship heading towards it.

What I am looking for is - what can I use for the Pirate flags, sails, etc?? I would prefer something edible, but fear I may have to use paper:confused3 Any Suggestions?

You could use fruit rollups if you just cut them to size and don't mind the color you buy. I can only think of toothpick to attach them although I suppose pretzels might work for masts also.

You could also used rolled fondant. It is white and you can get it at Michaels or ACM in the cake decorating department.

you can also use marshmallow fondant, that's what i use when making cakes. It works the same way as rolled fondant, but its cheaper and pretty easy to make and people usually like the taste of it better because it taste like marshmallows.

Those cakes are so cute!! Is there a recipe? I've never tried marshmallow fondant, but I think the other stuff tastes terrible.

thank you. here is the recipe i use
1 bag mini marshmallows
1/4 cup crisco
2 1/2 tbsp. water
2lbs. powdered sugar(about 8cups)

put the marshmallows crisco and water in large bowl microwave for 1-2 min or untill you can stir with spatula and everything melts. add most of p. sugar and sir untill you cant any more with spatula add more of rest of powder sugar and knead untill smooth.( your hands will be covered in it not really a way to prevent it but can help to coat hands with crisco)

i have heard some people add tsp. clear vanilla and a tsp. less water for more flavor

:thumbsup2 Thanks so much! I think this would make some great edible decorations for the pirate: and princess: cake :teeth:

WOW!! Thank you!! This will be perfect for the castle as well.

Is it easy to work with??

Thank you,

Amy

Great recipe. I can't wait to try it. Those cakes are beautiful. Did you ever take a class?

thanx, i have taken all four wilton classes at joanns and i loved them and recomend them. mmf is easy to work with. if it gets a little to hard to work with i put in the microwave for 5-7 sec depending on how much i'm using, and it softens up again.
