Help with a MS punch

I have the all around the page Rings punch from MS. I cannot for the life of me get the thing to line up right. I am using the measurements from the packaging insert, but I am always left with a little excess. Any tips or tricks you punch gurus can give me? (This is my first all around punch.)

Thank you for that! I think I finally figured it out. I just needed to play with it a little more. I was trying to go about it logically and you just have to follow the guides on the sides of the punch and trust that it will come out okay!
