Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? I have a lump on the back of my head, but an inch further down just above the nape of my neck I have another lump or bump. I'm going to the Doctor tomorrow, but I wondered what it could be, plus it hurt when I laid down on my back, so thats how I noticed it. Thanks for any input you could give.

It turns out to be an infected hair follical (i'm sure I spelled it wrong). I am on an antibiotic called Cephalexen (thats probably spelled wrong too).
Thanks for all of the great advice. It helped me be prepared.

Did you bump your head recently? How big is the lump? Does it have a shape and move around under the skin when you touch it? Maybe it is simply a boil or ingrown hair follicle. I am glad you will go tomorrow to have it checked out though.

I didn't bump my head, and thats what has me worried. I hope it is just a boil or something easy like that.

Is it possible it's a tick, (not sure if there all dead for the season yet). Or it could be possible you got bit by something twice (know it sounds weird), but had that happen this past summer got bit twice by a spider that left 2 marks. Hope this helps and let us know what you find out from the doctor.

I will get these on occassion if I have an infected hair follicle in my scalp. The lump is not necessarily where the infected hair follicle is located. Feel further up (like move your fingers up from the lump), feel is you have a like a pimple or something else on your head. Had it once as a teen and once as an adult, where I went to the dr. Now I know what they are and don't bother the doctor.
Definitely get it checked out though. First time I found a lump I was rather freaked out. Good luck with everything and post back to let us know how you are. :grouphug:

Is it kind of squishy? Can you sort of move it around? Right about where your head and neck meet? It is probably a sebaceous cyst. DH has one on the back of his neck and it is no big deal. They can be removed but they will generally disappear on their own over time. We never asked the Doc about removing it so I don't know what is involved but I do know it is harmless.

*I am not a doctor nor do I play one on tv. ;)

I have 2 rather large cysts on my head that I am having removed on November 15th. I have previously had 2 others removed. After numbing the area the doctor makes a small incision and removes them. I recieve about 3 stitches or so for each and I am on my way. I usually have somewhat of a headache for a bit after the procedure, but not a big deal. Just as an FYI, if this is what you have they ALWAYS send anything they remove from under the skin out for pathology. Don't let that scare you, it's common practice.

Please update tomorrow. Best wishes.

OK, I'm not a doctor, much less a skin specialist, but I'll take a WAG, anyway. Spider bites.

Let us know what the doctor says!

If you think it is something, go to a doctor and don't wait incase (hopefully not) it is something.

I would say it's probably cysts or a fatty tumor. They are almost always benign. About how large are they? Really nothing to worry about and you can have them surgically removed easily, but they usually go away on their own (get small to the point you dont notice 'em.)

Does a surgeon do this procedure or your MD?
I am getting nervous. Thanks for the information.
I go today at 1:00. I will update when I get home.
