I am the proud owner of a Canon Rebel XT and have been wanting to get a new lense. I found one that is a 28-135 IS lens that seems to be a good price at $414. Does anyone have this lens or can recommend one similar? For around the same price? Currently the only one I have is the kit lense the camera came with.

Thanks in advance for any and all help! :)

I am interested also. I have been thinking of the 28-135 IS or the 17-85 IS.

I would check on ebay or craigs list or places like that, perhaps photography on the net. They shipped this lens as the kit lens with the 40D, so there are a lot of folks that have them, but have never even used it.

If you looking for new, I would check B&H, Beach, Buydig, and Amazon. See which one is the cheapest, and use that as your guide, if your much cheaper than them, then I would get leary.

Also check resellerratings.com for the place your looking at.

I have it. With the 70-300 IS and the 50mm 1.8. for my XT.

I have the 28-135 and do like it. But it's not good on low-lit conditions unless you use a flash (which I dislike using). So I use my 50mm 1/8 for that (you can get one for $70 so it's a gimme).

I had the 28-135 IS and sold it so I could get the Sigma 18-200 DC OS (optical stabilizer) and am so glad I did. I love the fact that it is wider and has more reach. I *think* its about $100 more than the 28-135 IS though.

I have this lens but haven't used it in quite a while. I thought it was a good walk-around lens for me, although some people would say it isn't wide enough. The IS works very well; I've been able to hand-hold the camera at 1/8 sec with little to no motion blur. When I thought I might sell the lens, I started putting together a gallery of images. You can see them here: http://ImageEvent.com/ilene/canon28135.
