We are staying at AS Movies, and I would prefer not to rent a fridge, as it won't help us keep milk fresh in the parks anyway. DD will probably be coming off the powdered formula at 9/30, when she will be 1 YO. We are traveling 10/7-10/20. I guess I could keep her on the formula, but wouldn't that be just as expensive as buying milk for each meal? I was thinking of buying the Parmalats in the juice boxes. They come in plain, vanilla, chocolate & strawberry. It would cost us about 1.25-1.99 for a pkg of 3 (one day's worth). I would feel more comfortable knowing this would stay fresh in the park as well. Is there a nutritional problem with using the parmalat instead of regular milk for a 1 YO? Any advice?

Yep, it's just fine! It is regular milk. I used it alot when we took our dd at 2.5.

You can buy it in the single serving containers.

Parmalat works great. I'd recommend trying it out before you get to WDW, just as a precautionary measure. Also, you might want to stick to plain white milk.

We bought some for our 8 & 5 yr olds. We used a cooler in our room, but didn't worry about it and they never complained.

We used to serve parmalt milk at a daycare I worked for. It has the same nutritional value as milk however some of the kids didn't like the taste of it and one kid was actually alergic to it. So I would recomend trying it out before your trip.

Good luck!

I was actually scared of parmalat until...We went camping last year and brought some with us. To me it tastes just like whole regular milk (which I think it is-just shelf stable). If you opt for the bigger size bring a soft sided cooler and a ziplock and fill it up with ice from the ice machine before you head out to the parks and when you come back-whatever you have in there will stay nice and cool. Remember too, anything is probably cheaper than formula! LOL

As an aside I will bring parmalat down for my DDs to have in the room. One of which will be a week shy of the big 1, although I don't know if she'll drink it or not, she perfers mumma. ;)

good luck!

If you choose to switch to the parmalat milk, I would do it well before the trip. Some babies have a had time adjusting their little tummies to whole milk and right before the trip is not the time to do it!. My suggestion would be to stay with the powdered formular until your return. You can just mix what you need, when you need using bottled water. If your Dr,thinks she needs to be off infant formular, try one of the toddler fomulars, but i would try that out way in advance too. Don't stress out and have a great trip.

I have no clue about the about Parlamat milk. I just wanted to say that a cartoon of milk is not that much in the parks. I rember them costing only .99 cents. You could also purchase a half galloon of milk to keep in the room on ice. Just a thought. :D

DS (aka The Milk Monster) prefers his milk at close to room temp, but he won't touch Parmalat. He absolutely hates the way it tastes. (To be honest, I don't like it either; IMO it has a rather metallic taste.) You might try her on it ahead of time. If it's a bomb, here are some tips for keeping regular milk:

As I said, I live with the Milk Monster, and we travel a lot, including overseas, so I'm an old hand at keeping milk in hotels. If you are doing the whole baby-in-stroller thing at WDW, it isn't that hard to keep regular milk cold in your room, or even in the parks. Even if you don't have a car, if you do a grocery stop you can buy a jug and a reclosable pint bottle, along with a small styrofoam cooler. (Or you can bring a small collapsible cooler in your luggage.) The hotels have tons of ice available.

Here's the trick for the parks. Fill the pint bottle (or even 2 of them if your kid just can't live without milk) about 3/4 full, then put it in a paper bag with your name on it, and take it to the food court. Ask that it be put in the freezer for you; they will do it (I've never had a US hotel refuse to put something in the freezer for me.) Pick it up in the morning as you head out and keep it in a bottle bag inside your diaper bag; it will slowly thaw over the course of the day. Putting a ziploc of ice in with it prolongs the effect.

BTW, some children will prefer water in the parks when it's hot. In fact, too much milk may lie heavy on the stomach and make them ill in the heat. DS only drinks milk or water, but the only time he will want milk at FL parks is when we go inside for lunch. If we're outside he is better with water.

(BTW, I'm not kidding about DS being the milk monster; he's 6 yo, and he has a 4-gallon a week milk habit. We don't carry it in the parks anymore, as we usually go to a hotel for lunch as we park-hop, but we still keep plenty in our room.)

For a few days, no problems, but you dont have to use Parmalat or other TETRA PACK milk for childreen under 2 yrs every day.

I think you should talk to your pediatrician. Since you are going away, I think it best to make the change after you return or start her on the milk a couple of months early. If she does well on the formula, I would keep her on it until you return. Lots of things can upset kid's tummies. Just the excitement of the trip and being in a different enivroment can make them more susceptible to things.

...also makes milk boxes and my 2-1/2 y.o. son has never complained about the taste. I tried one myself during our last trip and the milk tasted fine to me (it was 2%). Don't know if all stores carry it, though...

Definitely try on Pamalate before you go. The day of the Great Black-out of 2003 :D I ran out of milk--naturally. By the time I went to the supermarket, only milk they had left were chocolate pamalate and soy. Bought some of each. DS4 and DS2 refused to drink chocolate pamalate after one sip.

We drink Horizon, and they make milk boxes. I bought some before our last trip, and the boys refused to drink that too.

Consult your doctor, but IMHO given your DD's age, it might be better to postpone the switch to milk until you come back.

If you really plan to use the pharmalot I would try it out before. I took it with me on a vacation to hold us over until I could find a store that sold milk (etc.) . I had it chilled, one of my dd drank it fine, the other wouldn't touch it. Also I would go with the plain, not flavored, because then you might have a problem switching over to regular milk W/O the suggaaed flavoring.

I do agree with the others, I would just keep the baby on formula until you get back from vacation to switch over to whole milk. The 12 months is just a general guideline, not set in stone. The money you spend on formula is the same as you have been. It's so easy to have the can of formula and bottle of water in the diaper bag, ready to mix when she's hungry/thirsty.

If you really want to switch her off I would do it before you go. One of my dd switched to whole milk easily, the other got kinda constipated from it in the begining.

I you are going to have her on milk when you go another poster suggested you could pack a soft sided cooler in you luggage. Other have posted the milk is less expensive at the gift shops, then food court. Your dd is also old enough to have water or juice( 100% juice in juice boxes you pack) in the parks, and get in her milk requirements ( is it still 20 ounces?) when you are in your room.
