I am going to be having major foot surgery (they are taking one tendon out of my foot and attaching it to my achilles tendon) on my right foot during the middle of July and it will take about 6 months or so to heal. I found out that I am going to be in a walking boot for my trip to Disney in December and will not be able to stay on it for long periods of time while we are there. Can anyone offer me any tips/ideas on how to accomplish this at Disney..

Thanks for any advice

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

Once around World Showcase Lagoon is about the same as trying to walk from the Capital to the Lincoln Memorial. Most people will do about six times that distance in a day at WDW.

Get a wheelchair or ECV, preferably the ECV. And look at the disABILITIES FAQ.

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information, including where people rent ECVs.

Or, if you want an easier route, click on the link in my signature.

Hi! I am in a boot now and we're going to WDW in August. I will still need the boot then--it is kind of heavy and not easy to walk around in for a long period of time. I am looking into renting an ECV from an off site company for our week long stay. I didn't want to, but I know I will not tolerate all the walking! I want to have fun and make sure my family is not having to stop all the time so I can rest!;) Good luck with your surgery and get the ECV!:thumbsup2

Most ECVs do not have much stretching room. If you rent outside the park a wheelchair you should be able to get leg rest that elevate. Check with you doctor about whether elevation will help give you comfort and help the leg out. Just put the leg down when travelling as guests tend to suddenly gravitate toward anything that is sticking out of a wheelchair or ECV.

I was at WDW last year with my foot in a boot and I found the wheelchair to be a lifesaver. You don't realize how many steps you take until you are taking them in one of those boots! I made out fine getting on and off rides, but the travel between attractions really adds up especially with other people pushing past. You'll still have a great time!:)

My DH will be in a boot too. Problems with his ankle. He will need surgery but we are waiting til after our trip in Aug/Sept. We will be gone for 14 days and I am trying to get him to rent a ECV for at least a week. I can't push him around in a wheelchair all the time. I did that for awhile in 2006 and it wasn't any fun. Really hard on me.

Good luck,
Sylvia in MN
