Prices are Still So High !!
I am getting nervous...Will all good times be gone ??? Somebody Somewhere has to know how to find good flights !!
Any Suggestions, Feedback Comments would be appreciated !
Thanks DIS'ers :guilty:

I'm not an experience traveler, but from what we went through on our trip this past week, I would say that airfare isn't going to be cheap during school break times, so if you are looking at Thanksgiving, I would not count on it getting lower.

We just went on spring break and airfare prices were high for the past year from when I started watching for them. Then there was one day for a few hours (like maybe 3 hours) they lowered the prices and I jumped on $200 round trip tickets, but by that evening the prices were back up and never went down again (I kept checking to assure myself I got the best price).

bellenbuzz, are your dates flexible? For example Friday to Friday or Sunday to Sunday? If so, you can fly direct from Lansing to Orlando/Sanford for about $200 pp r/t. You have to go through their site directly (allegiantair.com).

Our return flight is on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, and since I figured there probably wouldn't be many flights below $99 on that day I grabbed r/t at $173 pp for us out of Lansing.

Good luck!

MsSpin: I will check out the flight you mentioned. THANKS..
But, What I don't get is I don't know how we can be flexible on our dates.
We are staying at POR and have resort ressies from Sat, Nov 11th with check-out on Sat, Nov 18th....Where would we go and stay ???
Then the cost of another hotel night and meals would add up to the couple hundred bucks spent on airfare, Ohhhhhhh this is frustrating to me !!
I always hear about these Great Deal to Orlando......why can't I get the deals ??!!
I will keep trying and thanks agains for your information !!! :wave2: :hippie:

Bellenbuzz,

I checked Disney's website and they have availability at POR for either the 10th-17th or the 12th-19th. You can just call them and slide your trip either up one day or back one day and still stay for the same week. There is no cost to change your travel dates with them this far out.

I know what you mean about the great deals, but I've been watching airfare from Detroit for over a year now and the prices have been climbing higher and higher and staying there. The best way to get the great deals is to not book any airfare and then take a gamble that the airlines have extra seats to sell close to your trip and they put them on sale. However, I think since you and I are traveling so close to Thanksgiving, the Allegiant Air flights are a steal! I don't expect to see anything much cheaper than $173 pp for that time and figure even if someone does offer something $10 pp cheaper, it's not worth the risk for me to wait. Chances are pretty good with the rising costs of fuel that tickets costs will continue to rise.

The other way people get better deals is to take flights that are not non-stop or book way in advance when fares first come out.

BTW, we stayed at POR in 2003 and again for a night in 2004 before checking into the Poly and we love POR! Enjoy your stay there!

Do you have any flexibility with Disney, like changing ressies to Fri Nov 10 - Fri Nov 17th? Or Sun Nov 12 thru Sun Nov 19, not sure if that brings your airfare down at all? Or Sat - Sun & maybe just stay at a cheaper resort (value?) on the last night? I checked Northwest for you Detroit to MCO, Sun - Sun, price is 242.00/ticket.. 302 out of Lansing, YIKES!! That does seem high, I would suggest the pp who suggest Allegiant?

GOOD LUCK in your search, when we went, I booked exactly 1 year in advance (as soon as the date opened up) that said I had 11 tickets, so I got it for 197.00 pp MKE - MCO..

We flew on Midwest Airlines, :thumbsup2 excellent service! I'm not sure if any of their Michigan cities listed are close enough for you, or the cost, they are at www.midwestairlines.com, Saver Service to Orlando, and if you fly after 10 a.m., you get warm chocolate chip cookies, that alone was worth the flight for me

We are travelling from NY to Orlando Nov. 6-12. We paid $195.45. (tax included in that price) I was holding out for JetBlue but I didn't think Jetblue would be lower, so I bought them. Mostly out of fear of paying over the $195.45 with JetBlue. Might have been a mistake but didn't want to take the chance. Just checked, same flight is now $257.10

The week you are looking at has two issues that may affect airfare costs - the first part of the week is when Disney invites travel agents, et al. to visit the Magic and the second weekend is the start of the Thanksgiving blackout which drives fares higher. The previous suggestions on moving a day or two forward may help. Also, try using a search engine like http://www.sidestep.com to look at fares from/to your primary and close by airports. Good Luck!!

MDM,

Are you aware you are traveling Jersey week? You got a great fare for this time. Your right, about the fares going up. The airports are going to be very crowed on the 12th. What airline did you get for $195.45 & is is LGA or JFK?

bellenbuzz,

I agree with the others, grab that fare, & don't look back.

Patricia

Patricia,

We booked American Airlines out of LGA. OK and now I'm feeling totally helpless and scared... What is Jersey Week? It is the only time I could get off. To many variables with jobs, schedules etc.

Whatever Jersey Week is, it's better than a day in the office, that's for sure!!!
(I hope)

OK, Search feature wasn't working before, now it is and like I said. It's better than being in the office. I've been in June, July, August and the week before and after christmas. It can't get any more crowded than these times!!!

Bring on November!!! Counting the days!!!!

MDM,

I have been going to the parks for Jersey week, the last 5 years. The Parks aren't that bad, with the excpetion of the airports. Make sure you get to the airport 2 hours a head of time, when you go, & come home. I will also, will be flying home Nov 12th in LGA, but with Delta.

I am very excited too!!

Okay, Okay....I truly appreciate all of your advice and comments !!

When we went in Nov 2004 I booked approx 8 months out and got a rate of $179 pp round-trip non-stop on Spirit & perfect times !
I am so bummed that I cannot find anything from Detroit to Orlando that is anywhere close to that !!!
I am getting nervous that I will have to spend a fortune or miss out on a good flight schedule.....
Good Luck to You too !!

Hi Purtypat1. Glad to hear that you were able to get your flights worked out for Nov.
I'm still waiting on JetBlue to release their Nov schedule. I'm really counting on them for my Nov. flights, because Continental is too high and I really want to fly out of Newark, nonstop.

The other part of the ticket cost formula is the ever increasing cost of fuel for the airlines. It may well be that the days of "low cost" air travel are gone and the prices now more closely reflect the actual cost the respective airlines.

JetBlue rates looked good, but they don't have any flights out of Detroit Metro Airport in Romulus, MI.....
It's frustrating.....
And, yes I have considered the Fuel Cost impact too.....
I just want to get this done !! AAAAhhhhhhhhhhhh :scared: :tilt:

Have you tried looking on www.kayak.com
They search the actual airlines for the best price. I have yet to book my airfare for October 7-15 as I was hearing the SW is the best way to go but since the fares are not out for then, I am nervous and then I heard that they just released Septembers and they were higher than JetBlue. I am left with a stop going there with AirTran and a direct flight home with AA for 223pp. Not sure what I should do myself........ I am afraid they will go up but will be upset if they go down. Yikes I am trying to help you and yet I am depressing myself. Anyone have advice for me as well? :teeth:

I know you probably don't want to hear this, but your best bet may be to wait until SW releases their dates. Problem is, that may not be for another 2 or 3 months, they just released thru Sept 12 today. Just a suggestion of course, and no guarantee how low their rate will be either. As a previous poster said, I believe the days of cheap airfare are over, and we as passengers are going to be paying much more than we did in the past. Sorry, but JMO :confused3
