HELP! Which resort situation would you choose?

Me, my fiancee, and our daughter are going to Disney with my brother and his girlfriend. We currently have 2 rooms booked at ASMo. They cost about $823 each. We could get one of the Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and all stay together and split it for $908 each. Which would you do and why?

How well do you all get along? If you don't plan on using the kitchen or spending time doing camping type activities I would prob. go with the two separate rooms... I like having my privacy and a break from those I travel with. ::yes::

:)I wouldn't stay with other people, that is just me. I want some privacy while on vacation. And no matter how big a cabin, or villa or whatever room you have, it isn't big enough for me to get alone time with myself or DH.
Even my friends/family I wouldn't want to split a room with.

I want my own room to relax, or do whatever I wish and not impose on others or have them impose on me.

I did this once, vacation with family in a 2 bedroom suite (living room, kitchen 2 bathrooms) and it was a disaster..........NOPE I need my own room.

It is cool for those of you that can do this, but I am not one of these people.

Good luck choosing, and have a wonderful trip!!

I would and actually am doing (my brother is going with us) the seperate room/reservations thing. I have learned that sharing a place with even your most loved friends and family can sometimes turn not so enjoyable and I wouldn't want to risk that at WDW. Also, after being with people all day sometimes it is just nice to retire as a family back to your hotel room. Good luck either way!

Thanks for all the opinions! I'd much prefer the cabin but we can't really swing it on such short notice by ourselves. I was hoping to get them in because that'd cut the cost in half. ;) All the activities & such at the cabins seem SOO fun. The ASMo just seems so boring. :(

Why don't you change to POP? It is fun there with the water jets, music, and sometimes they put out fun things for the kids like hula hoops.
At the cabins you would only have 1 bathroom and 1 private bedroom. Also, you have to take an internal bus everywhere, unless you want to pay extra for a golf cart, which is pretty pricey.

I suggested that at first and he said there was no point in switching to Pop. GRR. Remind me to go with just my family next time!!

So we are now considering moving up alone, I'd just need to cancel some dining reservations. LOL (Which I totally don't mind because we'd have a full kitchen and a grill!!:wizard:) Nothing is in walking distance, though? We'd have to take a bus to the pool, or the store?

Yes, unless you rent a golf cart. Those get kinda pricey though.

We've only stayed at the Cabins for one night (my son wanted to try it) and I'm not certain, but I think the quiet pool is about 2-3 (long) blocks from the cabins(??). It wasn't as far as the store, restaurant, and where the activities where though.

My son really loved the cabins...he's always asking to go back there and the pirate room, lol. He loved riding on the golf cart, too. And the pony rides...and the Trail's end restuarant...ok, he loved everything about the place :)

I agree with others that I would want the privacy of my own room. It might be different if each family would have a private bedroom like in a villa, but with only one in the cabin, someone's not going to get as much privacy.

It sounds like you really want to stay at Pop and not ASMo. You could consider your family switching over there if that makes you happier. Just tell your brother that you've decided to stay there and they're welcome to join you or you'll just meet them at the parks each morning. You'd get even more privacy that way too.

I asked my mom and brother to join us one time, and it was too much. The bathroom was juggled, we decided we could rotate people showering at night, morning. This was ok, teenage daughter not thrilled. But brother got antsy with my two daughters, not sure why. He is a bachelor, and use to blaring tv, stereo when he wants. :happytv:

But then I traveled with my sister, her husband, two daughters, and my brood and we were all happy as clams.:rotfl:

Ask yourself, what is the temperament, are they quick to snap, or happy go lucky? My sisters husband is like a big kid at Disney, and very patient. It made a huge difference, and we really had a very enjoyable trip with the whole crew. I really liked the extra time catching up with my sister staying in the Beach Club Villa. :grouphug: But then again, we bunked in the same room at the old homestead.

ITs a doable proposition with the right mixture.

ASMu has lots of fun activities everyday. They start at 2pm beside the main pool and it goes until after 9pm. The play music all day which is fun by itself. They play all sorts of different games and dances. There is a beach ball that I would say is about 5ft tall that they bounce around in the pool. The lifeguards have to dance before they can change shift. In the evening they show a movie on an outdoor screen.

We absolutely loved staying there and most likely will be back again next time even though we had decided that we would try as many different resorts as possible before doing any repeats.

I'm not sure why you would think All Star Movies is boring. Remember, when you stay at any All Star resort, you get all three resorts in the bargain. That means six pools, three food courts, three arcades, and three bus stops to choose from. They are close enough together to easily walk between all of them.

I too read of your group's makeup and would go for the two rooms. I've done the cabins with my son and his family and we all get along very well. But it would have been so nice to be able to be in our own room at night or in the morning to get ready. The cabins only have one bathroom and trying to deal with that with four adults and one (at the time) 5 year old involved a lot of compromise. We worked it out but some of us had to use the kitchen sink for brushing teeth, putting in contacts, etc.

And if some of the activities at Fort Wilderness appeal to you (our granddaughter loved the little horseback riding thing), you can always go over there and enjoy them. You don't have to be a resort guest to do any of the activities at Fort Wilderness, except the pool. And the pools at the All Stars are better anyway.

Don't look at what you don't have - look at what you do have and have a great time.

I stayed both in the Cabins and CSR with other people. At CSR, we had three rooms, two of which were connected.

While my kids enjoyed the fact that the cabins had bunk beds, we found the transportation to be a pain in the butt. The area is so spread out, you have to take a bus from your cabin to the front of the resort, and then take ANOTHER bus to the park you want to go to.

But, if you plan on cooking some of your meals in your room, you might as well go with the cabins, since they have a full kitchen.
