We are thinking of getting an Nook Color, Kindle Fire or inpensive tablet for our kids.

They would want to be able to do the following:

play Angry Birds & other games
surf the web
watch youtube videos
maybe watch Netflix or Hulu
read e-books
maybe listen to music but that is a big maybe

Will all of them do this? I have tried to search Google & the Dis but keep finding outdated info.

Thanks for any help! I have a basic Kindle and an itouch but think one of would be a good option for them.

I've been following the reviews pretty closely because I am getting my wife one. I settled on the Kindle Fire because she already has a regular Kindle and I figured making the switch would be easiest going into a Fire. Barnes and Noble just came out with a Nook (not the color) that is virtually identical to the Fire. I've read every review that I can find and most say that the new Nook and Fire are basically the same. If there was any edge, some liked the Fire better because of the ease of integration with amazon. I've seen a lot of reviews that called the Fire the best alternative to the Ipad with the new Nook right behind...one of those 6 of one, half dozen of another situations.

Can I piggyback on your question, please?

Are their apps available that would allow a person to journal on a trip? I've been looking at getting the Fire for my DH, and if he can use it to journal, that would make my decision for sure. I suppose he could email a journal to himself if nothing else. :confused3

Thanks! :goodvibes

The Kindle Fire can definitely do Netflix and Hulu+, plus with a Amazon prime membership ($79 per year) you get access to the Amazon Prime Instant videos and can borrow one Kindle book per month (out of a selection of 5000 or so).

Since you already have a Kindle, you can add the Fire to your account and your kids can have access to the books you have already purchased. This can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your kids and your reading habits ;)

I'm pretty sure the new Nook tablet can do Netflix and Hulu as well and the Nook Color can do Netflix if it is rooted. If I remember correctly B&N lets you read ebooks for free for one hour in store, plus they usually have some sort of coupon for their coffee shop. I don't think they have a video service of their own though.
