We decided at the end of July to book a trip date removed. However, I had to borrow number removed points from Dec 2011 use year to make reservation - and that was only for number removed nights we were going. I figured I would book a value for first 3 nights and do a split stay. Well, a week later, free dining came out - but not for the dates we had booked. When I tried to transfer my reservation to other dates, nothing was available! I also decided that we would be better off going for Jersey week, since the girls wouldn't miss as many days of school. So, I'm on the wait list for that week and keep checking, but nothing has opened up. I know if I don't use the points by date removed, I'll lose them. So, my question is - if I cancel that reservation, can I post a thread offering to transfer the points to another DVC member? I'm not sure what rules apply to borrowed points - would another member still be able to use them up until date removed?

I may be wrong, but I don't think borrowed points can be transferred. You could always rent them out, but they'd have to be used by **.

There are many folks wanting to go in date removedand there is very little availability in date removed. I think you might have better luck renting out the reservation. Even if you have points to rent the points aren't much good if you can't find availability on the dates/at the resort your potential renters want. At least consider this option before you cancel your reservation. Good luck!

Several years ago we booked an Easter trip with borrowed points. Before the trip we purchased our MD house and decided we'd rather spend Easter at the new house than go to WDW. I rented out the points/reservation (I don't remember which it was.), cashed the check from the renter, then called MS to put the ressie in the renter's name. I was unable to do that. I was told that borrowing is a final transaction. I had to refund the renter's money and go to WDW ourselves.

I don't know what the rules are now. That was our only experience tyring to cancel/change a ressie w/borrowed points.
