Help --- what is this?

I took the picture below with my Canon T2i and 18-55mm kit lens. Because my tripod was buried in the trunk under all my luggage, I braced the camera on the roof of the car. I took 3 shots of the same scene, and all have the line that appears on the left side of the picture. I have never had a similar line in any of the thousands of pictures I have taken - day or night. Does anyone have an idea of what might have happened?

It looks like a flagpole that with that strong backlight causing a flare-like effect. You can see the base and what appears to be a shiny ball on top like a brass ball.

Since I don't know Photoshop, I guess I'll have to leave it as is.
 
I had the same thing happen and upon closer examination of the mirror inside ,with the lens of,f there was a piece of hair on the mirror. I have no idea how it got there as I had been taking pictures for days and had not taken the lens off. The line went away as soon as I removed the hair.
