I posted on the Community Board and was advised to check here as well....

I am looking for a little thing to "click" while grocery shopping--kind of like what umpires use to keep track of balls and strikes. I remember seeing them as a child, but I don't know what to search for to buy one.

We are trying to stick to a strict grocery budget and DH shopped yesterday and was having trouble keeping track and went over by $20, not a huge deal, but I don't want that to happen every week!

Thanks!
Christy

My mom uses just a pen and paper, but I have seen plenty of people with calculators. Just a suggestion.

(sorry, don't know what the clicker is called)

Thank you so much!!! The Handy Adder in case anyone is interested.

I added everything up ahead of time (on the list), but when some things were out of stock he got all confused and started adding things to make up for it (we were trying use an $8 off $80 coupon, so we needed to spend $80). He did not want to be short on the coupon and he overed added!

Thanks again! I am so excited!!

That is an awesome idea--I totally forgot I had one on there!!!!!!!!!!!

I have used the "clickers" and a calculator, but I have found that paper and pencil works the best. Every so often I'd push the wrong # by mistake on a calculator -- oops, no going back! When I use a pad and pencil, I add each item as I go - never a problem.

I just remember prices and count out at the register if I need to not go over a certain amount. (my mother used to do this, so I have been doing it for over 40 years). If you are close don't count the coupons/customer card savings (but in my case that can be 150 dollars off). The only thing I usually forget about is the bottle deposit. You could always hold your last 4-5 items and ask for a sub total.

The Handy Adder shows its age by only going to $99. ::yes:: ;)
