My husband just accepted a job with Amazon and I'll be moving my family from Virginia to CA. I'm a little anxious to say the least. He'll be working on Palo Alto. Can anyone suggest neighborhoods that I might start looking in? And the more important question is what airline has the best fares from the San Francisco area to Orlando? Any help is very appreciated.

We always fly American.
Stay out of East Palo Alto. Areas around Palo Alto, Woodside, Los Altos are really nice but expensive. We lived in Campbell for years. It's near San Jose. Would be about a 35 minute drive. California is a nice place to live. Mountains close and the ocean too. Then of course just a drive to Disneyland! Good luck on your move.

Welcome to Northern California. We fly Southwest to Orlando. Like Denise said Palo Alto housing is expensive. Get ready for some sticker shock.

We love going to the Disney Family Museum in San Francisco. My husband attends the monthly lecture series and really enjoys them. I am sure he would be happy to show you the museum.

And of course Disneyland is just a freeway ride away. How long until you move?

Welcome to the Bay Area!

I've always flown Southwest from Oakland to MCO. Virgin America has also recently opened a route from San Francisco to MCO, and I'm going to look at that as well for my next trip. Those are my two favorite airlines for both WDW trips and air travel in general.

I agree with what the others are saying about sticker shock. In addition to the neighborhoods mentioned, you could try San Carlos, which is north of Palo Alto.

I've never been to Orlando, but I visit Disneyland a few times a year. Southwest often offers cheap flights to Anaheim, and you have the option of flying from SFO or San Jose.

Welcome to the Left Coast! You will love our weather, entertainment proximity and great food. You won't love our housing prices! As others have said Palo Alto and the surrounding cities are LOVELY, and EXPENSIVE! I have always lived in the south bay, so cannot comment on the area north, as to what is affordable and nice. San Jose is very large (there is a big difference in travel time from the various areas of SJ to Palo Alto) and many areas are nice, as are many of the surrounding cities (Campbell, Santa Clara, Los Gatos, Saratoga, Cupertino, Sunnyvale , Mountain View, etc).

We have never flown direct to MCO - took American through Dallas from SJC. You should take the opportunity to check out Disneyland Resort. There are often several airlines offering cheap fares to Southern CA. We try to go at least once a year.

Welcome to our coast!!! We DL DISers will love to have you visit!

Good luck in house hunting. I know you'll find something you want in as best of a range as you need to have. It might take some time, though. :surfweb:

Once you get settled, let us know when your first trip is to DL - you can often get Southwest fares to Anaheim for as low as $59 each way from the Bay Area! If you buy an AP to DL, you can get some really low rates at the Howard Johnson right next to DL. Tom has been getting $59/night lately!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes. We will be coming the first of October. We're coming the the DC area so we are pretty high in price already, but really things are crazy for the buying market. Fortunately price are pretty similar for the the renting market and we want to take things slowly. I'm starting to get a little overwhelmed with the school thing. I have a son that will be going to kindergarten next year and I feel the pressure to get into a good school system now.

Thanks for the advise on airfare. I'm really looking forward to visiting the Disney Family Museum and coming down to Disneyland.

Thanks again for the advice and welcomes. :)
