Help, we need a DVD player

Target is showing for Black Friday a Memorex Progressive Scan DVD player for $29.97. And Walmart has a DVD/Recorder for $68.00.

I would go for the cheaper also, my DS has broken one of our DVD players, by pushing it in instead of using the button. So I will be buying the $29 one at Target this year!

I'd go for a cheap one. We have a cheap Samsung that works great! We also have a $25 APEX dvd player that works great. The $480 JVC home theater system we bought a couple of years ago is garbage. Even when it was new - it was garbage. I will NEVER spend more than $50 on a dvd player ever again unless there is a technical reason why I need to - like I get a $10,000.00 plasma tv;o) - which, isn't going to happen unless I win the lottery!

I say CHEAP too. They are so cheap nowadays they're practically disposable. My sister bought a cheap Walmart one last xmas and it's still going strong. I also recomennd keeping an eye out on clearance/close out sales for DVD recorders. I got a Panasonic one this summer when our local Zellers closed out for $150 (I'm from Canada that's dirt cheap up here the same one I got is selling for $699 on Bestbuy.ca) I can use reweiteable DVD-RW for shows that'll just be played on that recorder and DVD-R discs for shows that I want to share. I love it because the discs are so cheap. You can even get ones that record a 100+ hours onto a hard drive and then you can transfer the ones you want to keep to disc. That's way cool.
I also recommend this Venturer portable DVD player they have out that comes with two screens for in the car. either 1 for each kid or one for the back and one for the passenger. The driver better be watching the road. Great for long road trips to like say WDW :teeth: It's 299 up here at Walmart (I swear it was 199 in September though money grubbing so and so's)

What I'm trying to say is with those coming down in price after the holidays buy cheap for now and keep your eye on your local prices.

Thanks so much everyone, we decided on an inexpensive (less than $50) Panasonic. Mom got it as an x-mas gift to us and got themselves one as well so they will use it before we even get ours. Happy BF to you all, I am about 90% done -- YEAH!!!

We received a Sony DVD/VCR for Christmas last year. The DVD player was broken within months and the VCR is still working. I say go cheap and keep them separate!!!!

Hey everybody, I know many of you own DVD players. My question is should I just get a really inexpenseve one (less than $50) and maybe have to replace it in a couple of years or try to buy one that is more costly? I should mention, we are on a VERY tight budget this year. (Layoffs, etc.) We need to keep our VCR since we have so many videos, mostly Disney I must say. The kids are getting a few DVD's from Santa so I need to get one by x-mas. Any ideas on brands? Thanks a bunch, I really hate all the research. I prefer hearing others experiences!

Happy Thanksgiving :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

We just bought one at Costco for $44. It is slim and trim and is quite good. My husband and I have been wanting one for our room so while we were on a "date" at Costco, my husband grabbed it!
