Help! Water bottle filters with Florida water

Do the personal water bottle filters change the horrible Florida water taste?

YES!! I used a Brita bottle to go in 2004 and it really helped! I bought a new one off ebay recently and am bringing it with us in 2 weeks.

I also should note that our water in Chicago is known to be very good so I was really worried about drinking the water as in past trips we spent TONS of $$$ buying bottled water throughout the parks. When I used the filter bottle, it was great and we were able to fill up at any of the water fountains throughout the parks which I must say had nice cold water!

I don't believe now that it is all of Florida that has bad tasting water, OKW was horrible every time but we were just at CSR and the water was fine,we are from an area where water is very good so I am very discriminatory about my water and did not find it bad tasting at all.

Have you seen these water bottles and filters at Wal~Mart or Target (or anywhere else for that matter)??? Just seeing if they are out there other than ebay.....TIA!

I bookmarked this web page after learning about it from another DISer. Seems pretty reasonable. I don't know what they cost at places like WalMart. I'm glad you posted this! I had forgotten that I need one of these. DH refuses to drink from the fountains 'cause the water is so fowl. I told him I would hook 'im up next time. ....which will be in a couple of short months.

No, they are no longer for sale in stores I bought my first bottle in 2004 very cheap at Wal Mart. I bought my recent one on ebay for like $20 and I went and bought 30 filters Never know when ebay stock will run out!!

The area around Orlando and Disney has sulfur tasting water but that's only a very small part of the state. The water in North West Florida (Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties I know for sure) tastes wonderful and that's without a lot of treatment. Tallahassee has pretty good water too.

One of my peeves is when somebody degrades the entire state because of a problem in one small area.

Sorry about the water comments. I don't like Sarasota or Miami water either. Those are the only places I have tried.

Hey, no problem. I don't know what Miami and Sarasota water is like as I've never been to either place. My experience is that the water in the Panhandle is usually pretty good, it's when you start heading down the peninsula that the water starts getting no so good.

At Disney if I'm thirsty I'll grab a glass of ice water from one of the carts scattered around that sell fountain drinks. That water is filtered, free, and colder than any from a fountain.

yeah I read that you can get free water and ice. I am going Sept 22-28 and I know how hot it will be. Thanks for the info.

The bad water is hit or miss now. Any resort, restaurant, home that is built or refurbished must upgrade to have a water filtration system. This is a building code. So, the water in many of the resorts and restaurants is much better than it used to be due to recent remodeling. You may still find some places with poor tasting water. Older drinking fountains will most certainly taste bad, but in general, you will find the water to be much improved.

When I go to a restaurant that I am sure has not been refurbished, I ask for my drinks without ice. They are still cold, but I don't get the taste from the bad ice.

I got mine on ebay in 2005, but have seen them in various CVS stores in the years since. I think my CVS still sells them. Good luck...they are worth it. We leave on Friday and I'm bringing both of mine!

Well, instead of filters...I guess I'll just bring my Crystal Light on the go packets! Actually, I am hooked on the raspberry green tea. So, I'll just fill up at fountains and mix away!

There is a company called ************ that makes bottles similar to the Brita filter bottles (I have the Brita bottles too from before they stopped making them). I have no idea if these bottles work well or not - but maybe someone else will chime in and let us know.

And, yes, the Brita bottles take away all of the "Orlando water taste" - I especially like filling up the bottle with ice first - the water is great!

I bought mine on ebay for about $20, but for some reason they sell the filters in my CVS. The don't sell the bottle anymore though.

I agree with the poster who suggested free ice water at the carts. You can also walk into any CS restaurant and ask for ice water, you can get more than one if you want. I can't stand my water anything other than just below freezing cold, so the water bottles won't work well for me because as soon as it gets slightly warm, it's no longer refreshing. I do love the free ice water though, and the best part about the free ice water (besides being icy cold) is IT'S FREE! I always shake my head at the people lugging around cases of bottled water through the parks and having to drink it hot - not only is it a needless expense to buy it and bother to carry it, but how refreshing can it possibly be after a day in the hot FL sun?

This is a dumb question, but what do they do, give the water to you in a paper cup? I thought that they were just portable carts? They are hooked up to a water source?
