help wanted

I have a question and don’t know where to find an honest answer. I’m a single divorced Dad with kids. For 20 years I managed to scrimp and save enough money so we could go to Disney World for vacation every year. After the divorce I had full custody, but money got tight so we still went on vacation but stayed at Fort Wilderness camp ground… I’ve spent many a night in a tent in Aug. at the Fort with the kids. My question is the kids are all grown now, Fort Wilderness has so many wonderful memories I’d like to return but I’m 50 years old and worry I’d be the creepy single old man in site 6. I know you’re not supposed to worry what others think, but it would bother me if I made someone uncomfortable. What should I honestly do?

Go to Fort Wilderness and go camping. Maybe ask your kids, if they want to relive old times too, you never know......

That's the cool thing about camping in general and especially the Fort. Everyone is there with a common interest regardless of their background or situation. There are quite a few posts on here regarding singles at the Fort. Many seem to be women, but they are asking the same thing. Although the women don't refer to themselves as "creepy old women". Funny. The ones that have stayed on a solo trip had a great time.

To me creepy is someone following you or your children, making inappropriate comments...lurking around etc...
Many people I know choose to visit at Wdw- some single, married with and without kids, widowed etc... You aren't doing anything creepy and if it makes you happy who cares what people think If I saw you at your campsite I would think nothing of it and wave

I just got back today from the Fort, Confused50.

Nobody's going to notice, care, or worry about a solo camper. However, if you do something weird like sacrifice a live chicken at your site, Security (the Disney Popo [police]) might show up.

Just go, have fun, relax. What time of year were you considering? Tent camping in August again (if that was your old plan) is a hot, humid, wet time (I bet you can vouch for that) and October-May are tent camping weather times (cold months might require extra measures).

Creepy? I wouldn't consider it creepy. I absolutely pay it no mind when I am camping as to how few a people are on a site.

If I run the princess next year I will likely tent solo. Oddly I feel more safe in a tent at the fort than in a solo room where if I was attacked (in a room) no one would hear, or care.
