We are currently booked at our home resort the first two weeks of Dec. We are staying in a 2BR for a portion of the trip and then switching to a studio.
We have never stayed at BWV or BCV and would like to switch to either of these at the 7 month window. I called MS the other day to see what we would be up against and BWV studios are completely sold out for the time that we would be switching. BCVs have studios available, except for the first night of our stay. What do you think our chances of getting this first night at BCV? Should I switch the other nights to BCV and go on the waitlist for the first night and cross my fingers or should I just stay where we are?

Availability frequently changes (as I'm sure you already know), so by the time the 7 month window opens, it could be completely different.

If the situation is then as it is now, I would book the BCV nights and waitlist for the one night. I would also waitlist for the entire vacation to become available at once for the BWV (assuming you don't care which one you get for this trip). I'd grab whichever works out first. If I had enough points to keep the reservation at SSR until the BCV/BWV situation resolves, I'd do that, too. (I hate to move once my vacation begins, LOL).

FWIW, my advice is to call day by day for the BCV or BWV reservation. There will be many others also trying to switch to BCV or BWV or VWL for that time.

Good luck!

We have had luck switching to BCV during December in the past (typically staying in a studio) so I would call day by day and waitlist as needed.

Good luck!

I appreciate your response!
To go on waitlist for a different resort, can you remain booked at your home resort or do you need to have enough points available to cover your current reservation and the one you are waitlisting for?

You can keep the reservation at your home resort, but when the waitlist comes through, you have to have points available to make the new reservation. The CMs can set up your waitlist to cancel your home resort reservation if the waitlist comes through.

Keep in mind that if there aren't any rooms available at those resorts now for when you want to go, that means there is already a waitlist, and people probably being added to that waitlist regularly. By the time the June rolls around for you to get in line on the waitlist, it could be quite long.
