This is my first summer in this house, so the veggie garden is an experiment.
My tomatoes are okay, my cukes are exploding, my beans are good, peppers just okay, but I have only one little yellow squash going and no zucchinis. I get lots of blooms, but they fall off. I've forbidden DH from watering that section of the yard w/the sprinkler, I've lifted the vines up off the ground w/ pieces of wood. I don't see any bug infestation. Any ideas on how to get these plants to cooperate. I love squash! Thanks

The first flowers that a squash plant puts out are male flowers. They have a narrow stem, and they always fall off leaving no squash. Later they are followed by female flowers that have a thickened, tiny squash shaped stem. These are the flowers that make the squash. There will also be male flowers on the plant at the same time. Just give the plants some more time. They might like a side dressing of some balanced fertilizer, and make sure they get plenty of water. Don't give them a high nitrogen (the first number of the three listed on the bag) fertilizer. This would promote leafy growth at the expense of flowers/fruit.

Thanks for the information Nocnurse! I'll try to be a bit more patient.
