I have read recently on another forum that there has been a change in the rules for UK blue badge holders and that some UK visitors have been given a ticket for using their UK disabled badge to park in a disabled space in Florida. Has there been a recent change in the law over this? All the info I can find on tourist agency websites says the UK badges are valid in Florida and we have always used ours with no problem, but if tourists are now getting tickets that is alarming.
Some people mention getting a temporary permit but the application for this requires Florida ID or drivers licence, how could a UK visitor provide that?

I cannot imagine that a U.K. disabled permit of any type would be cited. Florida has some of the best state laws regarding rights of the disabled, not to mention the federal ADA that applies throughout the country...It's not as though a disability magically vanishes when you go to another country, state, or city. Unless the story you heard of someone getting a ticket happened because of the ignorance of the blue U.K. permit format on the part of the issuing officer, which used to happen to me regularly fifteen years ago, you should have nothing to fear. If you are uneasy, you might check with F. Shotz at ADAConsulting.com. He is an expert in disability law and actually lives in Florida.

We have friends from near Liverpool who visit us and Disney quite often. Their disabled tag is orange--it's really not a tag but a placcard. They have used it in Disney with no problem. I visited them two years ago and used my handicapped placcard all over Liverpool, Edinburgh, and northern Wales with no problem. I wouldn't worry too much. You should be fine! Enjoy your Disney trip.
