Help us spend $1,000,000!!

I think some of the ideas would be OVER a Million $! If you rented a private jet for your entire family - stayed in GF suites on the conceirge level for a month- bought Premium APs for everyone - had dinner at Victoria and Alberts each night - oh that would surely do it! The gratuities on a trip like that would cost more than my normal week's vacation. :cool1:

just in case you do consider a wedding, remember that the average american wedding is about 20-30 thousand dollars. and if you include the cost of a honeymoon and the rings and everything you can spend 1 million very easily. If you want a way to "budget" a 1,000,000 wedding go to theknot.com. they have budgets that remind you of many of the details, though even it forgets that most weddings include a rehearsal dinner and a sendoff brunch... :earseek: :bride: :earseek:

disney is one of the most expensive destination weddings I have read about.

What a great project! And you can count on the Disers to help you spend a million bucks pretty fast at WDW :flower:

My DD did this same assignment about 3 years ago. She choose to take all of our family members. Aunts, Uncles, Cousins , Grandparent... about 30 all together. Airfare - 1st class, 2 weeks all inclusive (holiday season) at Disney, I think at the time it was the platinum plan. She included money for new clothes, new digital cameras for the trip and souviners. She ended up adding a cruise for everyone as well. I think you might be suprised by how hard it is to acutually spend the entire $1,000,000. But it was a fun project. Have fun!

How to spend $1,000,000 at WDW? Easy! Just shop at the Emporium! I feel like I spend that much each time I go (and love every minute of it in the process!).

But seriously . . . How about picking some indigent families through an accredited agency who would not otherwise have a nice wedding and paying for their dream wedding at WDW? Plus, you can use it as a tax write-off! ;)

How about planning a wedding at WDW?
Include airfare for all the family and friends, the GF suites, the awesome Disney World florist with the hidden mickey pearls in the stephanotis, the gorgeous sugar gum mickey heads on the GF custom-made cake, and rent out the whole park for all the guests! :)

this is like the game my DH & I play where we pretend we win the lottery and plan out how to spend the $$$. Of course, a huge Disney trip (or two) is always part of the plan.

I would start with a concierge tour of the deluxe resorts. At least 4 days at each of these, in a concierge suite...the biggest suite they have: Grand Floridian, Beach Club, Yacht Club, Poly, Contemporary Tower, Animal Kingdom Lodge and Wilderness Lodge. That's 8 resorts X 4 nights each for a grand total of 32 nights at WDW. Maybe not in one big trip...you could split it up in several trips. Are you excited yet?

I would purchase Premium Annual Passes for me and my DH. We don't have any kids.

Here are the activities I would do:

Keys to the Kingdom Tour
Dinner with an Imagineer
Steam Trains Tour
Living with the Land Tour
Fireworks Cruise - Illuminations & Wishes
Rent the Breathless for an Afternoon
Parasailing
Horsebackriding
Canoeing at Fort Wilderness
Water Mice
La Nouba
Get this one: I'd renew my vows with my wonderful DH - at the GF

I would eat at every single restaurant that I desired. I mean all of them...even Victoria & Alberts.

I would pay for my mom to go...and whomever she chooses as a companion to go along with her. Probably one of her sisters - or both of her sisters. I would get them a suite in whatever resort they desire, buy them APs, give them food and expense money of $300 a day.

I would fly down first class and rent a convertible.

I would buy something really expensive - like original art from the Art of Disney.

I would go on a major shopping spree at all the shops in World Showcase.

I would go to each and every water park for a day...in fact I would see about renting it out for me, my family, and some friends.

Do you think I've spent $1,000,000 yet? Maybe, maybe not.

This is fun....one can dream.

I would donate 25% of the money to give kids the world and make a wish. I would adopt a family who couldnt afford to go and give them a trip of a lifetime.

Sounds like the "Everyday Math" curriculum :) I did this when I taught 5th grade year before last, and that was in our math book. A Disney trip is a great idea for the $1000000 project!

Lori P. :)

Okay, maybe my idea is boring... But what about exploring the benefits of investing the million bucks in a high-yield fund and spending the dividends forever! She could explore how the dividends add up... :flower:

For a change from Victoria and Alberts, Shula's is also expensive and don't forget the spa treatments everyones going to NEED!!!

I have always had fantasies about winning $1,000,000 and what I would do with it. And like someone else mention I have always dreamed of renting out each of the parks for an after hours party from my family and friends (and even people I don't know). I would pay whatever amount it would take to have all the rides open, just like it normally is, including the restaurants. I bet you could get pretty close to a million just doing that for all 4 parks. Of course I have the other fantasies of spending a month in a suite at the GF, flying 1st class or even charter a private jet and having all of the VIP treatment. Keep us updated on how they do on the assignment and what they end up spending the money on. Only if it were real life :earseek:

Do an expensive sit-down meal at every meal, while staying at the highest priced room at the Grand Floridian. As well as renting a limo.

Repeat every day until $1,000,000 is spent.

My DD had the same project last year in fourth grade. She had to get print outs of all her expenses.....we did alot of "purchasing" off the internet.... cars, summer house, trips.....I didn't realize how hard it was to spend one million. Of course she took all of her family and extended family to Disney...we could only dream :wizard: Good Luck, it turned out to a really fun "family" project! :flower:

Invite the ENTIRE 5th Grade Math class (including Families) on an all expense paid trip to WDW.

1) Charter private luxury jet transportation Roundtrip OK to FLA. ($100k).

2) Private Limos for all families: MCO to WDW. (30 families x $300 = $9k).

3) Luxury concierge suites at Grand Floridian (30 suites x 7 days x $1000/night = $210k).

4) Premium Annual Passes for everyone (120 passes (30 families @ 4 each) x $450 = $54k).

5) Meal Allowance ($250/day x 7 days x 120 = $210k).

6) Souvenir Allowance ($250/day x 7 days x 120 = $210k).

7) Disney Magix Cruise (30 Suites x $6000 = $180k).

I figure that brings it pretty close to 1M. Any extra goes to tips and shore excursions.

HTH, Steve

That's cool!! I love the idea of doing the different Disney's.......and you have to have clothes to go, souveniers, etc. Thanks for all of the ideas guys.....we are still working on it, so the more ideas the better!!

After she spends some money on the chartered plane, annual passes and vacation for the entire extended family, why not plunk down the rest of it on DVC ownership.....at $90 a point, it would be easy to use up the rest by simply buying ownership in each of the 7 DVC vacation clubs.

And have vacations for the rest of her life!

I believe you can purchase up to 5000 points at DVC. Thats $450,000 right there.

1. Rent disney characters to spend the day with in the parks, I know if you want to have characters at your disney wedding it costs like $700 for 30 minutes, per character. So if you had Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy accompany you for 8 hours each day that would be like $22,000 per day. ::MickeyMo

2. Forget the monorail, take Cinderella's Coach! For a Disney wedding you can arrive in Cinderella's Coach pulled by 6 Welsh Ponies guided by a Driver and 2 Footman in full regalia for $2,500. If you figure in at least 4 Coach trips per day thats $10,000 per day! :earseek:

3.Buy a refillable mug for each member of your party at every resort if you had thirty people in your group and bought a mug at 18 resorts that sell them plus 6% tax is $6,474.60 + tax= $6,863.08

4.Victoria and Albert's at least once a day, that $95.00 per person, per meal! :teeth:

5.NO Counter Service! and tip well over 15%, at least 30-50%! :earboy2:
